OK, the Landy and Patrol would beat the Mitsi on hard core off road ability. If money was no object (and my Mrs could park it) the Land Cruiser wins every time. I've owned a Nissan in the UK - Terrano, it wasn't that great and from what I read Nissan's generally have more problems than the Tojos.

I reckon the Pajero is a good compromise of off road ability, reliability and practicality.

I am interested in seeing and testing a Mitzi but the wife has made up her mind she wants the Prado - found the Nissan practical but too boxy and wants the assurance of Toyota.

Think I might still get an old patrol for offroading (just not sure where to park the trailer?)

Hows the Honda going Renth? non 4x4 I know but have had a few Hondas myself including accords preludes and legends.

I sold the VTEC Prelude before coming here. Easily the best car I ever owned, hands down.

I loved that car.

They certainly do. I have sat in one and played with it but the quality felt a bit plasticy.

We have a diesel Multilpa in the UK, bl**dy brilliant. We travel to France to see my parents and come back with it full of wine, coffee and cheese. I'm looking for a ltttle runaround for me to commute in and a decent sized family car. Something with a MPV like driving position (high up, sitting upright with good visability), plenty of room (so on those loooong Australian drives we are not at each others throats), diesel if possible and an economy price.

I don't know if I could justify a huge tank of a 4 x 4, what do you suggest?

hi
we had zafira in the uk which we liked.
over here we have had a mits pajero for 2 yrs the V6 Exceed sports model and love it.
its a work horse, not only carries 3 boys around plus me and husband but pulls a very large boat with ease, goes off road on hard 4 wheel drives proper 4 whell drive stuff.
bear that in mind when you buy a car .if you want and really will tow,go off road etc you will need a 'proper' 4x4.

we have use of the works kia carnival and it is very comfortable on long journeys but what a sluggish ride compared to our car.
really depends on what you want.

go mitzy every time, remember dakar!!!! :scared:

the roos.

I don't have a 4x4 here in the UK, but I've always fancied one and - when (if) we get over to Aus - I want something big and butch !

The Pajero was the one I fancied first when I started looking into 4x4's. I also fancy the Landcruiser, Pathfinder, well .... most 4x4's really.

Money will be a consideration, of course, so it'll probably be a decent one that is 2 or 3 years old or a new one that is cheap, like the Terracan.

I'll probably try and test-drive as many as poss to help me decide.

How much insurance do you pay on the Pajero ?
