Im from Ireland , I qualified with a diploma in science in 2003 .This is a level 7 qualification and was a 1 year add on having previously completed a 2 year level 6 certificate in science . The title of the level 7 diploma has changed to ordinary degree in science but its not superior since they are both level 7 qualifications .I would be eligible to enter a 1 years add on honours degree program in science with my diploma . It seems in Australia a diploma is something one does over a few months but its never longer than 1 year . How do I convince the assessing authority that my diploma took 3 years of full time study and is the equivalent to a bachelors degree . I'm asking specifically because I'm considering applying for the visa without the services of an agent . 3000-3900 euro is quite a chuck of change I could save

I think you will struggle to get a positive skills assessment, but it would be worth speaking to a registered migration agent for their opinion


A bigger issue is that it is only on the short term list, which means you would need state sponsorship for a 190 visa and the only state sponsoring is Victoria and they are doing so with criteria. They will want full transcripts of university and a minimum of 5 years post grad experience.

My diploma is level 7 on the NFQ
I have 10 years post grad experience
I have full transcripts for my 3 years in collage
I want to live in Melbourne so the state suits me
The NFQ and AQF seem very similar

If you want feedback on a question then you're best off to contact a MARA registered agent. The people who post on here are volunteers who answer when and if they can. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but demanding feedback then questioning the feedback given is not the best way to go about getting free advice.

I don't have a problem with negative feedback as long as the feedback has reasons to go along with it. Saying ''I don't think you will receive a positive skills assessment'' without offering reasons to back up their blanket statement is not good enough. Their may be assumptions involved which aren't true

Because you have done two years at a level below a bachelor degree level and one year at degree level - that is based on the link you have provided. The assessing bodies are VERY particular about qualifications and what constitutes a degree. The states are even far more particular and will question your transcript. I would speak to a registered migration agent.

The name of my diploma in 2003 was level 7 Diploma in Analytical Science the this qualification was renamed Level 7 Ordinary Degree in Analytical Science a few years ago. They are both considered the same level as per the NFQ. The requirements for the subclass 190 is a bachelors degree. This does not have to be a Level 8 honours degree , a level 7 Degree as per AQF will suffice . I am eligible to enter a 1 year full time level 8 honours degree with my current level 7 diploma . If my diploma was any less of a qualification I would not be able to do this . I suppose the main question is if the NFQ and AQF are a mirror for each other

A level 5 diploma on the AQF is the same level as the leaving cert in Ireland, both a pre 3rd level education

that's how the institute of technologies do the degrees here in Ireland , 2 years cert level 6, 1 year diploma level 7 and 1 year honors degree level 8.

The diploma is now called an ordinary degree, you couldn't enter the diploma or ordinary degree without first having done the certificate so in effect the diploma or ordinary degree is the accumulation of the 3 years you spent in collage. As I said I could spend 1 more year in college and id have a level 8 honors degree. According to you logic I'd have to do another 4 years in college to get an honors degree

They don't care what the name of the degree is, just the subject content. For instance, they don't say "well that is called a diploma in Ireland so it must be the same as a diploma here."

They do - as verystormy pointed out - insist that a certain amount of time in the course of study be at the university level (this can vary by profession). So that will cause you problems.

It doesn't matter if you like it or not and those issues seem cut and dried. No "convincing" will do.

I suggest you contact a MARA-registered agent who specialises in getting applicants in your field through the skills assessment process.

FWIW I agree with her. I think the OP on here needs to get himself a good registered agent and pay for advice. His questions are just beyond the resources of a forum, especially when he only wants to hear good news.
