Moving London to Sydney - Airlines
Hi All,
I’ve looked around for some airlines(Qantas, Singapore, Emirates) and can’t make up my mind
What’re the good airlines in terms of:
1) Cost vs Service
2) Taking golf clubs with main baggage. Excess baggage pricing is either too complicated or incomplete!
3) Frequent flyer miles.
Thank you

I fly a lot internationally.
Of the ones you have mentioned I would say Emirates and Singapore are the better.
Not sure on excess charges as I fly business.
If you are not likely to do much more flying and are flying economy, then the miles wont give you anything anyway from any of them.

BA has an easy enough to understand, and reasonable excess baggage policy which you can take advantage of on flights to Sydney. First extra 23kg bag would be £60. I think this is vastly less than the other airlines you mention which probably offer a better product onboard.

Emirates are best on golf clubs. Free if contained within your 30 kg allowance. Also really good in cattle class- my favourite for this.

I think Emirates are best on standard luggage allowance 30kg. Qantas and BA less I think. I took ski's on Emirates in Feb. Was included in the allowance.
When I moved to Oz 4 or 5 years ago BA had a really good excess baggage price. Not sure if it still exists.
I will say, the Emirates service is pretty average in my opinion. Most of the staff are non western robots. This means they do everything that's in the book. If you ask for something not in the book it does not compute. They aren't proactive. If its not in the script it doesn't get done.
Just flew Syd Lon last week on Qantas. The staff have improved no end. A lot of the staff were British and they were brilliant. The Aussie staff are good too, but they are a bit militant. We had a lot of trouble with our baby settling and they couldn't be more eager to help out, take him for a cuddle, show him the galley, etc. They even let Mrs Beoz get here head down in business class for a few hours.

On the Kangaroo route, Emirates, Singapore, Etihad, Qantas, Qatar, Malaysia, Thai...all 30kg.
Exceptions...BA (23kg, but very reasonable cost for another 23kg), Cathay (20kg), Brunei (20kg).
Then you have to watch out for piece limits, so BA gives you only one item at up to 23kg...it can't be split across 2.

Re: Moving London to Sydney - Airlines
Almost everyone is doing 30kg in economy these days, Qantas and Emirates certainly apply the same allowances due to their joint venture.

I was granted 30kg when I flew with them last year from Melbourne, so they were as good as their word.
Appreciate that doesn't help the OP!

I think the big question is how much luggage there will be, especially excess luggage. If you have extra bags then BA might be your best bet as you get charged for additional pieces... not every additional kg.
