MOT in Uk = What in OZ?
Can anyone tell if Oz has the equivalent of the UK MOT test and if so what is it called and how often is it required.
Where are tests carried out if required?

I know WA doesn't have anything, not sure about the other states though. I thought some kind of test had been bought in over east.

No MOT equivalent, but the traffic police conduct random stop-and-checks.
If you allow your car registration to run out, it will be given the full MOT treatment before it can be re-registered.

As said above Pink slips for NSW cars which have to be done yearly just like the MOT back home....

In Victoria, you only have to do a Road Worthiness test when you sell a car. You don't have to do it every year like NSW.

I service our cars quite regularly but you never know exactly what they check even if you ask. Same as anywhere really.
At least with a MoT you know they're checking - its in their interest.

I can see the point that forcing people to do a yearly check would keep unroadworthy cars off the road. However the reality is that it was always possible to find someone who could do a dodgy MOT for you in the UK. Nowadays most people service their cars properly and forcing a yearly check penalises those people who do maintain their cars without really catching those that don't.
