Question Mossie control...

Anyone know if there is an insecticide we can buy to spray plants, grass etc in the garden to try and reduce the mossie population?

We dont have any water (other than pool and bird bath which is regularly emptied and refilled) yet there are hundreds of them, and they're the big buggers

thanks

Spring is always bad here for mossies that is when they seem to bite.

We do not spray but we do use the candles when sitting outside and one of those electronic zappers.

Spray the plants and grass Why?

Would you by any chance have a creek, large areas of standing water, etc near your house where they breed? Mosquito population control is the responsibility of the local council.

We use a Mosquito Slayer which seems to have broken the breeding cycle. There are still a few around but not like they used to be.

Nope.....

I want to spray the plants as that is where they live, and they've been bad not just in spring but since we've been here (end May) - one time I was standing outside for literally five mins tops and my feet where they were exposed from the shoe were bitten really badly...

I will try the other suggestions, thanks

What's a mosquito slayer and a yard guard and how do they work?
I've heard of people burning a ring of citronella burners for half an hour before you want to be outside.

Over here, we're asked to inform the council if we find large pockets of them so they can come and spray the area so they can try and prevent the Ross River Virus. Obviously all councils work differently but I'd ring them and ask their advice.

For your skin - I totally recommend Avons Dry Oil Spray, but it HAS TO BE the green bottle. The mossies hate it. Cannot remember the name of it, but the green bottle works.

We have been twice to Oz for a holiday and have taken bottles full in our suitcase of this stuff, and left it with our friends out there - they thought it was great too. It is really good. No bites whatsoever when we rubbed this in.

The slayer uses a number of different lures to attract the female mossie and then drowns them. This breaks the breeding cycle. You can add a carbon dioxide lure as well, however we havent used it.

We have rainforest behind us and it has been effective in reducing the mossies.

The fluorescent/blue light electrocution type seem to take forever to kill moths and the like.

Citronella deters them, depending on the wind direction. We once had some visitors who were allergic to the citronella which meant outside with the mossies or inside with their brats
