Medical - Crohns disease
Hi all,
Just wondered has anyone who has or is immigrating, suffered with crohns?
And has it caused any problems with meds for visa app, or once in aus? I know this may be a bit of a sensitive subject so any help/advice greatly appriciated. Thanks
Claire

Hi Claire
I have crohn's disease and it caused no problems with the medical, visa etc. In fact, no issues arose regarding this. I am in oz now and have been here for a year.
Whereabouts are you heading to?

Have no answers for you Claire except to say have a search, I know others have the same condition and have got through - probably in the Immigration Forum. My deepest sympathies to you though. My best mate has it and I know as well as a non sufferer can what you go through.

I was about to post something similar as I'm about to undergo tests for colitis.
It's good news that it doesn't affect the medicals

Re: Medical - Crohns disease
Hi, i wanted to say thanks so much to all who responded. Its actually my partner who suffers from this, in fact he has had it for 4 years and after extensive tests, docs still havent been able to pinpoint whether its definately crohns or ulcerative colitis. He is constantly on tablets to control it and does have to take steroids when it gets really bad, which he infact has just got some of from hospital today. He also has to attend hospital with a specialist every 2 months for bloods and check ups. The company who are sponsoring him are aware of this, but we are however unsure how it will affect our chances of getting permenant residancy once there. And how costly all of this will be.
Any how i do really appriciate the replys and its good to know the meds will be ok as hes goin for his next week. We are hoping to head for brisbane later this year or next if all is well. Thanks

Re: Medical - Crohns disease
Hi Claire, i have had chrone's disease since I was 19 (16 years). When i was 20 I had part of my small bowel removed because the pain was so bad. The operation went wrong, after a few days of the operation I was in chronic pain, my bowel had come apart inside me and the poison from my bowel was running through my body. I had to have an emergency op that night to repair it and take more diseased bowel away, because it was so bad i had to have an iliostomy for 10 months. This was reversed after the 10 months and I have basically been pain free ever since. I was on steroids back then too but have been on no medication since.
I was concerned this would stop our student visa but the medical was just sent to sydney. The medical was paased and I have emailed them since to see that when the time comes this will not stop me being granted permanent residency, they have assured me the conditon is not serious enough to stop any type of visa being granted.
My daughter also has spina bifida occulta and has had 2 major spinal ops and a foot operation, she wears an orthotic splint on her left foot and catheterises 4 hourly, her medical also passed and we have also been told that her conditon is not serious enough to stop a visa being granted.
You basically just have to get a good referral letter from your doctor at the hospital, but I dont think they would not grant a visa for chrone's
Good Luck to your other half I know how bad the chrones can be, I was constantly in and out of hospital for 2 years but have been pain free since having the iliostomy which let my bowel rest for 10 months and that was 14 years ago now.
