While I agree that Australia is better placed to deal with this mess than the UK, Australian housing stock is more over-valued than UK housing, and the Australian housing market will crash just like every other Western housing market, and it will happen inside the next two years.

Re: Living in Adelaide
We lived in Adelaide, its a lovely place, however we struggled for work, there are plenty of jobs, but getting one is another story! I found Adelaide quite friendly, spacious, clean and very very quiet. Good place to start but best to get out and travel around some other states to compare.

There is demand driven inflation and supply driven inflation and he current problem is driven by by supply, not demand.
Whilst you may be correct that interest rates will be increased to reign in inflation, that act more than anything else will lead to a drop in Australian house prices.

Please explain how increasing interest rates will dampen inflation which is caused by global increases in oil prices, rising food costs caused by protectionist trade policies and mismanagement of water resources, and the unwillingness of retailers to pass on the savings created by a strong AUS$ to the consumer.

I'm sure you will be fine, yes. Many professions are. The problem is the issue of hyperinflation turning to long-tern deflation and the general carnage this will bring to wider society.
