Certainly no fresh foods, seeds or anything remotely alive!

I wouldn't take foods. You can buy food here.

If you bring food in you will have to declare it on your customs form and then probably have yours bags thoroughly searched which takes time and is not very nice.

I'd also suggest (assuming you already have friends/relatives there) that you take some things to leave behind for when you move there permanantly. One baggage allowance is barely enough to start a new life with.

It's hard to imagine that right now with London's 30 degree heat

...Think I'll cool off with another chilled beer

Enjoy the hot tub

Just recently back in Oz from a trip to Europe. as others have said don't bother with foodstuffs. The main thing is liquids, creams and all that stuff getting through the pain in the arse security checks. Don't even think about opening duty free liquor along the way- and make sure ask the people selling you duty free if you can take it through 'X' airport you are traveling through.
Saw lots of angry travelers having to bin heaps of stuff they couldn't bring into the cabin.
Ask your Dr for some melatonin supplements to help with the jet lag too, done the trip about 8 times now and it really helps recovery time - so does limiting the booze in take on the flights.
Good luck

There's no point in flying if that's the case

I avoid drinking beer for several hours before and throughout a long haul flight else it causes me wicked flatulance .
