Default Kingaroy, Queensland

Does anyone live in Kingaroy or have any info about this town. We have 2 children ages 9 & 11 and want to get as much info as we can on this town before we consider it an option to move to.
Thank you

I'm about an hr from Kingers, I go there shopping, and have some very good friends there. They love it.

I like it but wouldn't want to live there, no particular reason, just doesn't "grab" me.

Has all the basics. Several very good wineries, lovely sceneary, if you want to live out of town.

And only 1 hour away from me, what more could you want!

I'd be running very fast in the other direction........ but then my former mother-in-law lives out there

Bit sleepy, might be OK when the kids are little but as teenagers I think they'd struggle.

Oh if there are now signs around the place saying No Entry for Poms, then its all my fault

My predjudiced and preconceived idea of the place is it is probably the most fascist part of the entire country ? You know Sir Joh and all that. Is it ?

I wonder if the term "feeding the chooks" means anything to anyone on here ?

I would expect I'd be hated more for being from Victoria than for Being a Pom though around those parts ?

Cherbourg? Is he a police officer or an indigenous affairs officer?
Murgon, Wondai & Goomeri all have pools though they may not be open all year.

That depends whether your ex-mother in law lives there

Is it as rabidly right wing as we are told here in Melbourne ?

lol Is Melbourne all caramel latte's & cheescake?

Kingaroy is O.K as a country town. The pub we use is quite posh with excellent food. There's a lot of country farmer types with a few dollars. I find the people friendly polite & down to earth.
Never found out their political views, didn't your dad tell you "never discuss politics or religion in the pub"

Cherbourg! Definitely go for Kingers not Cherbourg. Our pool is only open 6 months (really pisses me off) so I'd assume it's the same.

I'll take that as a yes

Lest we forget !

Love him or loathe him, the late Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen gave us many memorable quotes. None of us will ever forget some of these classics....
"Don't you worry about that"
"Goodness gracious, I know what you're trying to do."
"Just you wait and see."
"Let me tell you, what is good for Queensland is good for Australia."
On news conferences: "I call it feeding the chooks."
On unionism in his maiden speech on August, 1947: "It is a form of treachery and can only lead to economic upheaval of a severity not often experienced."
On industrial relations: "The 40-hour week has given the opportunity to many to while away their time in hotels."
On John Howard and Ian Sinclair during his Joh for PM campaign in 1987: "You can push a 44-gallon drum of molasses up a hill easier than you could push these two fellas."
On the Joh for PM campaign: "I'm a bushfire raging across the country." And when it failed: "I never really wanted to go anyway."
AdvertisementAdvertisement

On former Chinese leader Mao Zedong: "Red is red wherever it is - and I don't trust any of them."
On finances under Gough Whitlam: "Australia is bankrupt. It is even worse than that."

My Favourites...

"The trouble is that Queenland gets branded as being a part of Australia"
On human rights: "What's the ordinary man in the street got to do with it?"
On condoms: "We don't want any of that sort of thing up here."
On press criticisms: "The greatest thing that could happen to the state and nation is when we get rid of all the media ... then we could live in peace and tranquillity and no one would know anything."
Comments about Sir Joh:
Gough Whitlam in 1974: "(He) is a Bible-bashing bastard - the man is a paranoic, a bigot and fanatical."
Columnist Phillip Adams, comparing Sir Joh with Peter Sellers' character, the moronic Chance, in the movie, Being There: "Both (Joh and Ronald Reagan) have visions as limited as their vocabularies, yet both these grotesque garden gnomes are seen as colossi by their deluded followers. The louder we laughed at them, the more powerful they became. The more improbable their careers, the more certain their ascendancy."
Former ALP national president Barry Jones: "He is the Ayatollah of the north: How can you have an open debate in the Kafka-like atmosphere of secrecy and cronyism of Joh-style politics?"
John Howard on the Joh for PM campaign: "Tropical cyclone Joh has already petered out."

We nearly moved there a few years ago. I had an offer of a job building planes in Kingers. I told the boss that I was having a hard time convincing my wife that Kingaroy wasn't 'Hicksville'. his reply was "We are not Hicksville, we've even got a Mcdonalds now!"

We decided to move to Melbourne instead!

I guess it all depends what you are looking for then huh. Living away from a city, with a quieter life, around friendly people sounds good to us And besides its got so much around that we will be taking full advantage of.... national parks/camping/beautiful beaches 3 hours away. Life is what you make it
