ING Australia
Anyone know if you can keep your account open in Australia while living in the UK?
RaboDirect insist you close your account if your no longer a Tax resident in Australia.
Not sure about ING Australia.
Thanks for any help.

Re: ING Australia
I've kept my Commonwealth Bank account in Australia and I live in the UK. They were fine about it, even organized extra security for my online banking. Just give ING a call and ask them.

Re: ING Australia
The big banks are fine, its the online saving providers, they have to deduct 10% at source from any interest income, some do not provide this service.

Re: ING Australia
Just been into the portal.
Product: Savings Accelerator
Under Tax, there is a balance currently at $0.00 Non Resident Tax withheld.
So should be alright?

Re: ING Australia
We have a friend in UK who does this for us with our UK bank accounts - probably 4/5 letters a year between the two of us. She also couriers our new credit/debit cards as the bank will not send them here to Philippines. I just transfer enough pennies to her bank account to cover the costs.

That's the problem I have, above?
If I use a friends address; so I am still classed as an Australian resident for tax purposes; which I am not. I am an Australian citizen, but not a resident for tax purposes. So legally, my financial institution must deduct 10% non residents savings tax at the source of my interest income received within Australia. They will not do this if I have a Australian address registered on my account.
In the Ing Direct portal, there is a Non Residents Tax balance, currently at zero; so maybe they will allow an overseas address. But when you try to input in an address other than one in Australia, RED alert, you need to add a proper Ozzy address.
If I call them, and they say no, you can't have an account with us if your not a resident within Australia. I have to close the account, and then I'm stuffed..
What a palaver.....
Many thanks to Dorothy, what a lovely woman.

Re: ING Australia
Just move your account to a bank that does allow it. Never had problems with Westpac or NAB.
