I beg to differ!
Indians make up about 50-60% of the top tier professionals in IT. If you ever get a chance to walk into head quarters of Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Intel etc you will realiase this for a fact.
I am not saying that Indian IT professional is superior by design or make. Its a simple numbers game, just because the Indian numbers are huge, most of the not so good IT professionals also belong to India and hence attact significant discredit.
Its a herd mentality to believe in such generalization!

No offence, but I believe the thread was about getting a job in Australia. The advice I am giving is relevant to the Australian market. The OP should not rely on getting preferential treatment due to Indians having an outstanding reputation in Australia - because that reputation has not been established here. You can argue the merits of Indian developers generally but, with respect, it will not be relevant to the question at hand. An Indian developer is likely to have to overcome the hurdle of being educated in a 3rd world country and being from a non english speaking country (even if it is widely spoken and semi official). Any western experience will help overcome that barrier.

I have been here in the US for 9 years-including my Masters. The US is great. I have a great job and great prospects. At the same time, my employer is processing my Green Card with no issues.
However, in the end of the day I am 1000's of miles away from parents and family. In my mind Australia is a happy compromise. I get to enjoy a quality of life with an opportunity to have parents close by. In the US, I could get my GC in about 4-5 years. My parents can be here in the next 10-12 years. As possible it may sound, I just wonder if 10-12 years wait is worth it? I don't think so. I can hopeful establish myself in 10-12 yrs in Australia.
Also, my real comparison is between India and Australia. In the US I am on a non-immigrant status. If I loose my job, I need to fly out tomorrow. Atleast the Oz govt provides a 28 day grace period.

I could-but I guess there is a big learning curve involved. For now I think I will stick to Networking-Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Credit Services. Ah almost forgot the CCNA's and CCNP's

To be honest, if I were to choose between a life of no hardships (monetarily or otherwise) in India and struggling to make ends meet whilst living in Australia, I would choose to live in India without a doubt. Third world it may be to many but my quality of life will be first class

Nopes you do not have to leave the country incase you have a Green Card. Yes it is equivalent to a Aussie PR.
The challenge is that the GC process is taking atleast 6-7 yrs at this time. Till then you are stuck with the same employer-plus on an H1B your dependents cannot work. You need to get them a separate work visa or they can attend school.
Dhama, so how do you like Brisbane? I guess bulk of the jobs are in Sydney and Melbourne and Brisbane has the next set of jobs. Was setting up easy as the US? like Driver's License, rental, phone, internet etc?. Do people prefer driving to work or the train? (Here as u know mostly people drive). Did you already pick up a car (heard they are expensive)...Sorry I have a lot of questions If you don't mind could I PM you?

Yeah Ritesh..your correct.It is light years away. A lot of H1B's applied for the Alberta AINP option and got the short end of the stick there too.
