I think the UK are alongside OZ and NZ in being different to many others.

The US, China, Denmark, France, Israel, Italy, South Africa and Switzerland amongst others, all have different power plugs.

In much the same way, Banks in many countries will also have different ways of doing things. To say that Australia is the one that is different does ask the question.... different to what ?
