Welcome to the site.
As far as I know (this was the case 2 years ago) you cannot just roll into the Victorian police force here on arrival (although they are recruiting very heavily at the moment)
We had a couple stay in our unit, and Dave was former long term military, then a number of years in the police (I though 9), and before emigrating was involved in primarily high speed persuits & the armed response team. It took 12 months for his paperwork/meds etc to be process & for him to be accepted into the force over here.
He did however have no problem finding work in the meantime (because of his background) and joined after a year.
I also have a couple of Australian friends that are in the police force, and even they cannot simply move to another state and have their qualifications accepted, and walk straight into a role in the police force. Every state has its own rules & regs unfortunately.

Thanks for that I know it's going to be a long hard rd to get to Oz, I might even have to consider doing some sort of course's and get re- qualified in a skill trade and then get to Oz and then at some point apply for the police.

You could try for a 457 visa (employer sponsored) in a different role e.g security. I've just been looking at this site http://www.liveinaustralia.com/457/
This how I'm trying to get there as I'm older than the 45yrs limit. New Zealand is also another option as it's easier to get into Oz from there.

Taken from the Vic police site
http://www.policecareer.vic.gov.au/f...pplicants.aspx
Do I need to be in Victoria to apply to join Victoria Police?
No, entrance exams can be sat at a number of locations nationally. You will need to come to Victoria for the fitness test, psychological test and panel interview.
Can I complete some of the selection process whilst overseas?
You must be available to attend a fitness test and then the panel interview in Victoria as part of the selection process. The Victoria Police Entrance exams can be sat at a number of locations nationally. For further information, head to www.police.vic.gov.au
Do I need to be an Australian Citizen to apply to join Victoria Police?
Police Regulations Act stipulates that you must be an Australian Citizen or at least hold permanent residency to be eligible to submit an application to join Victoria Police.
You would need to apply for permanent residency to be able to apply

An email is definately worth it.
I did this a couple of weeks ago and got two interviews within the space of two days with a job at the end hopefully as they are now looking for references.
Difference was that I was in Oz on holiday.

For the OP it might be an option to get over here, but he would need to wait at least 2 years to hopefully get permanent residency if he doesnt qualify with his present qualifications/experience.

Thats how I landed a 457 just over 5 years ago as well. Went around companies just introducing myself, and in the process received a job offer with sponsorship.

I've been struggling to get an acknowledgement that I applied for a job in the Uk and lo and behold the first enquiry in Oz results in an interview. To the op, the 457 isn't the best visa to get but it gets you into the country legally and you take it from there. Pr is definately available from there.
Like they say. How do you eat an elephant- a small bit at a time

Re: Hi another new Member on his first step to OZ
Instead of just emailing them why don't you do a jobs search? Google returned this when I typed in "police recruitment in WA"
Q1. Do I need to be an Australian citizen or a Permanent Resident of Australia before I can apply to join WAPOL?
Yes. One of the requirements to join WAPOL is Australian Citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency or New Zealand citizenship.
Q2. Is there any recognition for prior learning or previous experience?
Yes. The process allows for successful applicants to apply for recognition of prior service due to service with other compatible Police jurisdictions. An abbreviated Academy course and accelerated progression through the Constable rank structure (up to the base level of Senior Constable) may be possible.
Applicants must however still qualify for selection by undergoing the selection process described within this site.
Q3. What are the promotional opportunities in WAPOL?
The promotional process consists of automatic promotion to First Class Constable after five years if all studies and assessments for that rank have been completed, then promotion to Senior Constable after a further four years if studies and assessments to that rank have been completed. After promotion to First Class Constable, officers may apply for promotion to rank of Sergeant. Senior Constables may apply to promote to Senior Sergeant. Promotion for the ranks of Sergeant and above is based on a merit system.
Q4. Am I paid whilst being trained in the Academy?
Yes. An attractive commencement salary of $44 207 is paid during training with an increase to $58 818 plus penalties, on graduation. Transitional applicants can however be paid up to that of a 5th Year Constable, pending experience and qualifications.
Q5. How can I get into a specific area of WAPOL?
To gain entry into any specific area of the WAPOL, each recruit must attend the Police Academy for a total of 28 weeks and then remain on probation of up to 18 months. After this probationary period, an officer may then apply for a vacant permanent position within WAPOL. If more than one officer applies for a position, a selection process will determine the most suitable person. If the position sought is a specialist position, appropriate skills or qualifications may be required and it may also be necessary for you to have at least five years general policing experience before you would become competitive for the position. The mentioned time periods may be affected by officers receiving recognition of prior service and learning.
