Re: Has anyone suffered with new allergies since moving to Australia / WA?
I had Hayfever for about ten years in England. Been in Perth 6 years. Last year I started suffering quite bad from sinus problems. So now as well as a hayfever spray I use a saline spray about 4 times a day to keep this under control.

Son is having problems with dust mites. Been asked to do the injections to get rid of allergy. However you need to do the injections for up to 3 years!
So son is not keen, says he would rather sneeze.
Also the grass here irritates the kids skin. Im also getting sinus problems.

The NAET treatment I had clears dust-mite, grass, allergies, etc.
No injections & no pain.

I have only found out that I am very allergic to dust and dust mites since being in Australia (QLD). According to my specialist the reason I didn't know until my move is because more humid climates like QLD have higher concentrations of dust mites than places like the UK. He said that it was nearly a million (litterally) times worse the concentration in QLD versus UK

Ever since moving to Sydney last May I've had a persistent blocked nose type allergy. Doctors have prescribed me 'Nasonex' nasal spray on two occasions and it's been no help at all : ( . Going back to ENT specialist soon to see what do to next.
Anyone else here have similar symptoms? Not life threatening, just really annoying!

I also found that I had a bent septum, so I had that altered last year and I can honestly say that it was the best thing I ever did. My ability to breath through my nose, even when I am congested is a huge improvement for me

Yep I got Nasonex for my non-stop sneezing from allergies (namely dust-mites). I've been on steroid nasal sprays since I was 7. I honestly can't live without them. There are different ones available in increasing strength. Weakest is Beconase, then Nasocort then Nasonex (not on PBS) and a new one called Avamys (also not on PBS) which I've just been prescribed which apparently is the strongest available. They are pretty expensive though, so I'm using up my Nasonex before I get this one so not sure what it's like yet. Luckily I don't have asthma at all.

I've been with the ENT today and it does look like I am going to be trying a nasal spray. He thinks I am suffering from allergies and it's now started to give me a tight chest.
I seem to get it once the rain stops and the sun comes out.
Beconase it is for me and we will see how I go.

My sinus have been been a real pain in the sinus since arriving here...Not sure why... Also had 3 doses of tonsilitis, which hadnt had in 20 years... Whole family have been sick with something or other for past 3 months... Nothing too bad or anything, but just inconvenient.
I'm sure it will all pass when the system gets used to the new environment and climate...
Have to keep things in perspective... none of them are real sicknesses

So glad I read this thread as thought I was doing something wrong!!! Kiddies have been sick for the past 2 months and try as I might they can't seem to shift it....they have had colds, bad throats, coughs and high temperatures. Like everyone is saying I'm sure it has to do with getting used to a new environment (only moved here in Feb this year).
I used to get really bad hayfever in the UK so am waiting to see how I am affected here.....asthma is a lot better at the moment though.
Will deff try the Vitamin A thing for mozzies as when I get bitten they turn into horrible big lumps....mmmm...lovely!!!!

Ever since I had my bent septum repositioned I have not used it once. Have they taken xrays of your nose?

This is all very interesting. Our daughter never had hay fever in South Africa but gets it badly here in the UK every year. She's the only one. The rest of us don't suffer from it at all in either country. Nothing seems to help her (apart from Autumn, Winter and Spring). So we're hoping it will clear up over there as some of you have experienced.

It nice to know I'm not alone. Typically the weather has dried up the last 2 days and I have symptoms. Mine aren't the classic "hay fever" ones like itchy eyes etc. I lose my voice, head feels a bit fogging, nose starts to feel congested and sometimes the chest feels a bit tight.
I hear what you say about Beconase. The ENT was worried that if I didn't use something like that then I would be breathing through my mouth and I might end up with asthma as I already have a tight chest and a genetic disposition. Something to do with the nose is the natural filter and I am a mouth breather because of the rhinitis. This with poor eustachian tubes I would be prone to ear problems to which I have a history of.
One easy solution is to try moving back to the UK!!!
Just for information I called around several chemists this morning just to see how much beconase 24hr spray is. Well the nearest place was $21.99. The cheapest (10 min drive) is $14.00. I can't imagine the difference between superdrug and boots for the same item would be as much as £4!
