This was all sorted out through our travel agent... she called them and even sent them copies of our VISA to allow them to check it themselves.....they came back saying 40kgs was fine and allowed but the golf clubs would count within that!

Can't help more than that I am afraid!

I flew with Cathay Pacific for my validation trip, have just contacted them to ask about excess baggage fees for when we move permanently. They have quoted an eye watering £36 - £42 per KG!!

Thats about average for an airline price. Use someone like www.wedelivertheworld.co.uk instead

I have been looking at AirNz excess baggage policy and dare I say it is quite good(flying from NZ to Uk $75 for and extra suitcase)
Flying from London it is 35 quid for an extra bag(up to 23kg) to NZ or Australia. If you take a third bag that costs 100 quid extra(ie 135 quid for 3 bags each traveller)
Qantas charge an arm an a leg even if you pre book the excess bags.
