Re: Feel Shocked & Justified!!!
Im another one that feels the same as the rest of you on this thread. After seeing my son (then aged 7) being bullied by a bunch of girls and after being shocked to see so much scum around I had to tell him that no matter what age or sex that if someone were to hit him he could hit back as hard as possible and tell us straight away. He is now 22. I had a similar experience with my daughter aged 15. When I found out she was having a hard time at school I even told the teacher that I have given her full permission to flippin nut the idiots. Thankfully several of the teachers knew what I was talking about and in their own way were behind me. I feel so bad having to tell them that but I have found that as soon as you show these scumbags any fear your life is made a misery. My god even I have had to show no fear. Last year I had an incident with a teenager who was egging me to hit her, obviously I couldn't because of fear of being jailed. I've since found out her whole family is like that and her mother was done for trying to poisen her teacher when she was a youngster
One of my neighbours told me that after being burgled and the culprit being caught the police came knocking on his door and pointed the scumbag out to him and said 'now you know who he is' The policemen were so fed up with him continuously causing trouble and getting away with it. This scumbag had to move away because a couple of his victims now knew who he was and where he lived.
These scumbags seem to gloat on the fact that they have crime records and it helps make them look 'hard'. They have absolutely no respect or morals. f
My best friend's life is a misery because of scum living around her. Her two teenagers live in constant fear and one was beaten so bad he needed his jaw wired and a court case. During the court case other scum were terrorising him for going to court. He has since helped stop a woman being beaten up and obviously got beaten up for that and now doesnt want to go to court for obvious reasons. He is only 15. She is desparate to leave this country and is doing everything she possibly can to get out. At the moment she is studying to be an electrician just to try and get points for a visa. Where is the justice in it all.
Off my soapbox now. Just wish we left this country sooner.

Nobody has suggested that it is mate, with all due respect we on this forum are of a decent social standing i.e hard working, decent and honest for the most part, and the kids we will be taking with us are from the same background. On the issue of the unrest in Oz recently then sorry but look into it a bit deeper and i am sure you will see why the trouble happened to begin with!

Re: Feel Shocked & Justified!!!
As a teacher teaching kids between the age of 3 - 20yrs I can safely say that things have rapidly got worse in the last five years only this morning I was asked by one of my six year olds to shut up and then she refused to continue the lesson she sat in the middle of the room and wouldn't move. As a teacher the law says I must politely ask her to get up my rule however was to drag her out of class and explain to the parent her behaviour was unacceptable and until she could behave she could not come back, to which the parent gave me a barrage of abuse and reported me to my boss who lucky for me said if you dont like it go somewhere else.
My point being the parents are weak they give in and pander to there children there child is always right and free to express themselves like a mini adult weak society leads to a weak nation bringing you on to the current weak government pandering to the recent Islam cartoons and grovel shh shh we cant say that we are loosing our grip.

Good on ya! i would have done the same, not a suprise about the parents
reaction though, sort of the norm these days, but i agree about the parents jumping to the defence of the kids, this has been the case in our kids school for a while, one dad even stormed into the reception and head butted the head teacher without speaking to him and finding out the facts of what had happened. I really cant wait for the day i wave goodbye to these shores.

Re: Feel Shocked & Justified!!!
I can certainly relate to the comment about Aussie kids communicating easily with adults (and everyone else!). We've lived here nearly fifteen years, brought our three kids out when eldest was seven and twins four and a half. They are now adults and mix easily with all ages. I believe there are two main reasons - one the society here is most definitely family orientated. When you get invited somewhere - for a barbeque for instance - there would be no question of you leaving the kids at home. Everybody from your household is expected (including other kids on sleepovers!! and all the visiting rellies if that's the case!!).
Secondly, the school system here is different. Someone commented that it's laid back. Perhaps - not sure what that meant really but I can say that in my opinion (and my experience) the teachers treat the kids with a great deal of respect. Therefore you get back what you give out. The teachers I've encountered throughout my kids education put a lot into raising the kids self esteem and encouraged them to make the best of themselve.
We went back to on holiday in 2001 (first time in ten years) and it was so clear for me to see how our kids could mix so easily with everyone. In fact at one big family and friends shindig all the other kids went off into huddles and socialised only among themselves - our kids were all over the place chatting easily with all age groups.
It's definitely a healthier society here from that perspective.

I've just read through this whole thread, and feel surprised at what I've read. I've not been back for 3 years, and haven't lived permanently there for 5 years, so would consider myself out of touch a bit now.
I've heard similar sorts of things from my UK relatives, but put it down to location.
The one thing that sprang into my mind a few times, whilst reading, was that I really do hope that Australia is 20 years behind the UK in this aspect.
I have no doubt that things will change, but hopefully not too fast.
One post, from someone in Perth I think, mentioned a group of teenagers walking towards them, (a mother and daughter), and then they said hello and moved out of the way for them.
I am curious.... Did they feel scared at first ? I ask that as I do sometimes still feel a bit concerned in a situation like that, even though nothing bad has happened yet. (well, except once in Parramatta ! )

I laughed the other night - load of gothy looking kids wandering up to the train station in Berry with their skateboards under their arms - my mum waiting in the car park with the radio on - happened to be The Who - I can see for miles and miles. Lead kid walks past the car - gives my mum the thumbs up and says 'nice music!'. And off they went. If that had been Letchworth where I was brought up they'd have clocked her one and nicked the car.

To all who had a input to this thread-particularly Fireman Al
I was a fireman also, in the LFB-and was involved in the Brixton Race Riots of 1981.
A certain MP=Enoch Powell gave a speech "Rivers of Blood"--all the do gooding gits gave him a real working over.
I was one who could see where the UK was bound--my old Dad encouraged me to get out whilst I could, I have been here in NZ for 25yrs--it ain't perfect but is better than what you've got.
My only sister lives on a Council Estate in the UK--I have stayed there with her and it makes Baghdad look like a holiday destination.
