Default Experience with removal companies for move from UK to Aus

Hi

Anyone have any positive or negative experience to share about using removal companies when emigrating from UK to Aus?

Thanks

Experiences with moving overseas tends to be similar to moving in general - some good, some not so good. If you look in the peach coloured banner, you can find the search function which will give you lots of results. There are also the forums of two companies - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=192

and http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=193

you can also check out the www.trustedmover.org website by the British Association of Removers.... its a directory combined with Reviews... look for overseas moving group members.

I wouldn't over think this one or over research it either, there are so many other things to do. Removal companies are much of a muchness, I have never read anything that has led me to believe that there are any standouts or any to be avoided at all costs ... and people do ask a lot.

Seems to be all down to the local crews at both ends as long as you avoid the cowboys. We went with Pickfords and got a great service in both countries

We had a very positive experience with Doree Bonner / Grace.
Crews both sides were good, stuff arrived quickly and in good condition.

Over the years, I think I've read good and bad about all of the companies so I think BS's advice is good - just pick one and go for it

Crown were great both ends and it's the same company, some companies use a local firm this end instead.

Thanks Mummy3. We had a quote from Crowns and Anglo Pacific, Crowns seemed more hungry for the business but more pricey on any excess. As a first-timer at this, trying to gain a good understanding of what to look out for, so far both companies are making the right noises but not sure ...

Our experience was very good, we got the price down with them, played them off against other prices.
Don't pay their insurance, Letton Percivil in liverpool were far better, cheaper and we had to claim and they paid up as our washing machine broke in transit.

I investigated 4 or 5 companies and have decided to go with PSS. They seem the most professional. Don't move until jan 2014, so a lot can happen yet, but so far so good with them.

Hi Mummy3 and nmm, I will get further quotes and contact Crown again, totally understand that using a company that provides an end to end service without using sub-contractors could be of benefit.
Thanks for the info about insurance too, much appreciated.
