Fascinating reading. Great to see Australia's steady progression up the GDP ladder. With the Reserve Bank determined to talk down the 'Aussie' and further improve our trading position things can only get better
No matter where you think we are heading in the future, there is no question that Australia is a more wealthy country that it was 20 years ago - by a big margin

12th or 13th biggest economy in the world - and growing
Per capita GDP above UK, USA, Germany etc
2nd in the HDI index
A growing power in energy

Total super is now at over $1.6t and growing at an fast rate. One of the largest pension systems in the world - for 23m people

This country has an incredible future ahead of it

I certainly agree with the thrust of what you say but wasn't sure about being ahead of USA nor 12th or 13th largest economy (certainly not on total GDP; nor GDP per capita):

e.g. by one measure (PPP), USA 12th, Australia 23rd, Germany 27th, UK 34th. http://www.indexmundi.com/g/r.aspx?v=67&t=100

He was in the running for topping this chart... but the Canadians have been block voting and one of their own is now well out in front.

My stats are from the IMF:
http://www.imf.org/external/index.htm

but the World Bank, CIA etc are similar

IMF has Australia:
Total GDP - just under $1.6t - 12th (USA 1st, UK 6th)
Per Capita GDP - just over 63k - 5th (USA 10th, UK 23rd)

Interestingly, the UK's total GDP is only about $1t more than Australia - for a 1st world country with 3 times the population

Hopefully the UK£ will steadily strengthen for the next 18 months or so ending at around 2.5 to 1 in time for me to sell my house, get the money over here and then come crashing down again

Well with our economy continuing to strengthen anything is possible but 2.5 might be pushing it.

I reckon so too but you never know. And with the country's population growth as it is and with nowhere near house building volumes to match it, I certainly think house prices there have a long way up to go.

Moving over at the beginning if March. I have an app for the phone with the exchange rate, and check it daily and have my banks, and exchange company, tel numbers in my favourites! Hoping it reaches close to $2-£1 by the time we leave, although we're in no rush to bring all of our funds over.

Maybe. But all those pounds and dollars the UK and the yanks printed and the masses of debt they are still in has to have some repercussion - inflation????

What will that do to currency and how will that effect the $A?

A good app for tracking rates is xe. Available on android and as a website www.xe.com
Shows graphical trends and historical rates too. You can track up to 10 currencies on the app and do instant conversions
