I now have a Devonian/essex/kiwi accent. I really feel I have lost my way somewhere and shock myself with how my accent comes out !

Haha, I look forward to hearing the accent one day.

Incidentally, do you mind me asking why you are returning home from NZ?

Well not many replies then, I remember the days when everyone was from Essex.. They must have all gone nowNeed to keep this going for a few days though as not everyone checks the forum every day.

Dont think Steve has the time to organise the meet. I would prefer anytime after 20th.

So we have so far:
Jacko1 - Colchester
Darkless-South Woodham Ferrers
Essex Nobby - Wickford
Olive 101- Brentwood
Devon Chick - Maldon
Me - Chigwell/Langdon Hills

Steve used to have the meet in a nice pub near Lakeside. have a look: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...&pagenumber=11

Maybe EssexNobby could organise another meet? What about you darkless? I am out of the Uk so I cant.

Have a nice day

I'm from Essex, I'm in Sydney now though!! Otherwise would have loved to have met up with you lot! I'm born and bred Essex, my Dad was born in Hornchurch and my Mum was born in Braintree, and I was born in Upminster. Unfortunately for us we moved to Grays, Thurrock when the kids were born (well Chafford Hundred actually, cringe!!) as we needed a bigger house and couldn't afford Upminster prices. Hated it in Grays, hated living near Lakeside, especially at Christmas or every bank holiday Monday, it really is the arse end of Essex, although I don't think they class it as Essex anymore. I think Essex County Council disowned it!!

I've been here for 2 and a half years and still haven't lost the Essex accent. I get the piss taken out of me at work as they think I talk like Jamie Oliver, I just reply with 'well he is from my neck of the woods', I get some weird looks for that one!! I have a freind here from Maldon and we have a good old chinwag about life in Essex when we get together, its funny.

anyway, better stop rambling on.......

Mandy

Tell me where and when and I'll do my best! Mr B's newly-discovered family from his mum's side are from Hornchurch, so there's a bit of a connection

Yep, his mum died when he was nine (she was a pom). His evil step-monster chucked away everything to do with his mum, so when we came back here, we got searching and found his great aunt down in Hornchurch. That led to finding a vast collection of cousiny types all over the country!

Technicaly, Mr B's a geordie as his mum was born in Newcastle UK (the moved to Newcastle Oz when she was 5 - original). I'll call him an essex boy and see how he reacts!
