Can anyone tell me if immigrants skilled or otherwise have to pay for schooling? I'm a bit confused and have probably read too much and confusing international with other things...... I know there are private schools, but the non private ones: is there a fee?

I've a 14 year old and we will be living in Adelaide

If you've got PR you don't have to pay for public schooling. However, you do have to pay basic fees for books, excursions etc. It's generally about $2-300 a year. You may also have to pay more amounts through the year, depending on what was included in the initial payment, and what subjects your child will be doing. For example both my daughters do Art and have to pay extra for some of the materials they use. Obviously you have the uniform to pay for which could be as 'little' as $100 or as much as $500 depending on the school. Not sure about Private schools, never gone down that route but I imagine uniform etc will be higher. Fees seems to be between the $5,000-$20,000 per year from what I've read on here.

You won't have to pay school fees but you may have to make a bit of a donation for various amenities - probably around $50 a term. You also have to buy all books and paper etc - none (or very very few) are provided.
