Option 2: It's not a dedicated cargo flight - it is a passenger flight. Even though it is a direct flight, there is a two hour stop at Dubai for refuelling etc , so someone will go and check on the dogs and refresh the water, but they won't be taken off the plane until they get to Melbourne.
Thats what I expected. They have to refuel somewhere and all passengers have to disembark. Cargo (which includes pets I guess)stays onboard.

We brought two Old English Sheepdogs over - they flew out 4 weeks before we did. Flew on QF via Dubai in May 2013. Per a previous post, on arrival in DXB they were transported by A/C vehicle to an A/C holding facility. As it happened, the onwards flight was delayed 7 hours due to technical issues. They just stayed longer in the pet centre. We were kept informed the whole journey by texts from our UK export company Petair who I would recommend highly.
