Does this exist?
Does anyone know if there is a big space you can walk around (undercover/indoors). I really don't like walking in the sun and heat (and among mozzies when the sun goes down!) here and miss walking a lot.
I wondered if anyone knows if there is a facility where you could walk around. I guess like an indoor track that most may run around but a space where you could walk. I do walk indoors in the large shopping malls however would prefer a dedicated space. Thanks for any info.
I'm in Brisbane by the way.

Re: Does this exist?
I'm not in Brisbane, but Perth, but couldn't think of a single place here that would fulfil those requirements.
I could only suggest walk when sun less fierce, or indeed before risen or when gone down. For evenings mosquito repellent would be a solution, if so impacted by bites.
I'm afraid the sun is part and parcel of the Australian condition for a large part of the year.
A hat and sun glasses I find helps but never mind personally building up a sweat.

If you meant the former, then, good news!

Unless you have access to an office building I think you will have to settle for shopping malls.

This must be why whenever I've visited Queensland I've seen heaps of people out very early in the morning, jogging or walking.
I think my cut off point for comfortable exercise down here in Melbourne is circa 33 degrees Centigrade. Is it lower up there because of the humidity?

Thanks all. Unfortunately no access to an office so back to the shopping malls for me then :-)
I can't head out too early due to child care (lack thereof) and couldn't go and come back in time for OH to head to work. I do walk early-ish outside when I can and do prefer to be outside but the humidity saps energy more than being indoors (so I end up doing a much shorter walk) and I really don't like to be the extreme UV too much. I've tried later walks but even with mozzie repellent am eaten alive somehow.
If I had the cash perhaps I could develop this type of facility - might be a money spinner! :-)

That’s why people go to gyms to use treadmills. I would hate that though! I like walking too and miss the right to roam we had in the UK. I go out early as less mozzies. In the Adelaide hills it is cooler than on the plains. Generally parks or reserves are cooler to walk in or by the riverside.

How about a treadmill?

I've got 3 weeks off of work at present and we planned a small trip to Mornington at the end of this week in our camper. For the first time I can ever recall I've been put off by the conditions down there. There's an outbreak of Buruli ulcer specifically centered in the Mornington area with 275 cases in the past year. It's a flesh eating ulcer carried by by Mosquitos they think. I'm a mosquito magnet and camping means I'm bound to get bitten a few times.
Like I said it's the first time in my life I can ever think of that natural conditions have stopped me by choice going somewhere for a break. Never been stopped by cold and rain before.
The heat or cold generally doesn't stop me, Mosquitos and their disease threat certainly have.
We're going to Ballarat instead..... It'll be dead cold there for sure, that's not a problem for us though..... I'll admit that we are probably staying in a motel instead though.
We'll take the camper away in a couple of weeks up to the Murray I'd say.
Here's a news report on that flesh eating outbreak.

Yah I'm not a huge fan of treadmills (or gyms) prefer to be in the wide open spaces and fresh air! Unfortunately don't have the space for a good treadmill at home. I live near a very nice river walk but despite drowning myself in repellent am bitten to heck. Ah well, all good.
You can get a treadmill on gumtree pretty cheap - setting it up and putting it away easy enough, and get a walk in air con if needed while watching the morning news - or in the evening when the kids are in bed watching David Attenborough or similar. Couple that with an early morning walk while OH has kids before leaving for work maybe.

A little research shows there was a pilot program in 2015 for a walking circuit inside the Westfield Garden City mall.

Offhand I can't find more details, but it suggests that there might be a suitable route there.

So what would be the difference with an indoor track?

Thanks all - seems there isn't a venue like this so back to walking around the malls it is.

Not to worry, will go back to mall walking.
