Most of the attributes on this thread associate with stupid redneck bogans who are uneducated an uncultured. Shows more of the poor legoland slum area that the Brits are moving too (making them a laughing stock to locals) rather than Aussies in general.

Yes, where you live is very important, it says everything about you. If you don't live in what is deemed to be a good area then people will laugh at you, you will in fact be a 'laughing stock'. When you chat to the 'chatty' cashier in the supermarket and you tell her where you are from, the friendliness will stop. When on public transport where everybody is having a great time chatting away about this and that you must be careful that no one overhears where you are from. If they do the conversation will stop, the bus will become quiet and people will giggle and role their eyes at you.

And why would anyone moving to any area make someone a 'laughing stock'?
Surely that is their business whether they be aussies or any other nationality. Not everyone has wads of cash stashed away to be able to afford a mcmansion in a 'posh' suburb you know.

Australia started with a few tens of thousands of criminals dumped in the bush.
The USA started with a few hundred settlers who wanted to be free.
Fast forward three or four hundred years and you can see exactly what you've got, in each case.
I will withhold comment since that might be construed as "whingeing"

And just for clarification what in your opinion classifies as legoland slums?

The inferiority complex used to be really prominent.. Best example was when you got off a plane, someone very quickly would ask, sometimes within 10 mins "What do you think of Australia" ? That happens far far less these days, When that question is no longer asked the complex will be over.
It's happening
As long as the Planet stays intact, I can see Australia being as important as the US used to be. Say in 100 years time... Aus will be very Asian by then.

Re: Does Australia suffer from inferiority-complex?
You quite clearly have no clue about economics. Australia is currently the worlds 13th largest economy - thats right only 12 countries have a bigger economy out of about 220 nations on Earth. This with a population of only 22m and being only settled by Europeans for a little over 200 years.
Australia has achieved much in such a short time and this is what Europeans despise - the fact that a colony can outshine many European nations with thousands of years of history(Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Portugal ect).
Its the same attitude Eurotrash have with America, a colony that kicks Eurotrash Ass.
Dont worry, it wont be too long until Eurabia is declared and you can have all the 'exotic' culture you want - just with no money.

What has Australia "achieved" exactly apart from some measure of wealth by digging natural resources out of the ground?
What a bizarre rant!
