Unlike UK, you can chop & change yr GP when & if you like and not be tied to the one practise in yr neighbourhood but what you'll find is, that the better the practise the longer the waiting lists or their books maybe closed.

Why does Medicare then routinely investigate doctors who break the 80/20 rule (more than 80 attendances a day for more than 20 days a year)?

Why does Medicare even need an 80/20 rule if there's no incentive to see patients quickly?

Just another perspective - the best GP is one you feel very comfortable with, who keeps their medical knowledge up to date, has a good understanding of your medical history, genuinely cares about you and your health, and listens to you.

My GP has all of these attributes and although her fees are slightly over the odds, she's worth it. I'm so glad that I took the time some years ago to find a doctor that I'm really happy with - since my accident and then my diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis she's done so much to help me, including referring me to great specialists whom she keeps in touch with constantly by phone and email to make sure I'm getting the best, coordinated care. Ever since I've had to stop work she's been bulk billing me without any discussion or fuss, even though I don't have a health care card and am not receiving any benefits.

My rather long winded point is that your health is the most priceless thing you have and it's worth investing some time to connect with a great GP, whether they bulk bill or not.
