Re: Is this a decent salary for Perth prices?
The problem is that Australians leave their dogs outside all year long, night and day, so the barking issue is a problem. They also have pretty poor control over their dogs on the beach as well, which is another thing that annoys me. In a nutshell, I never had any real problems with dogs in the UK, but here I do and it's just a cultural difference I won't get used to. The way they look at you when you suggest they keep their dogs indoors is pretty funny too. It's like you've asked if you can take a **** on their coffee table, if you excuse the imagery.
Having only moved in to this suburb 5 months ago, I was amazed at how many dogs there were - just about every household has at least one and yet, you never hear a dog bark at night unless there is a reason. On the rare occasion when my girl goes flying out the doggy door at 2.00am and "goes off" it reminds me of the 101 Dalmation scene, where the dogs are barking the message across London ços I swear, it is so quiet the whole of the suburb will be hearing her!
Similarly, dogs on the metro beaches in WA are limited to specific dog beaches and the authorities IME are very big on it come summer (as they should be).

They do but I have had numerous arguments with people on a specified dog beach who whinge that my dog is upsetting them having their picnic. Go picnic on a beach that my dogs aren't allowed on you stupid people.

I wish we did, and it has been proposed apparently but not actioned yet. In daylight savings time they're not supposed to be off the lead between something like eight in the morning and six at night, but a lot of people don't pay any attention to this at all and it's not enforced. It's a pain when you've got toddlers on the beach. A separate beach for dogs would be perfect.

It might be that 'teaching' is sort of tact for eminent academic type.

Most professors will do no more than three or four undergrad hours teaching per week, depending on the number of modules they're on. The other 40 hours is spent researching, reading, student admin, meetings, conferences.

I am half way through the interview process for a teaching job which is offering a salary of 130.000 dollars. I was wondering if anyone could advise me if this salary is a good one for a family of two ( just me and my husband). Also I would have to rent near peppermint grove? This suburb would be out of my price range, so any suggestions as to where to start my search would be gratefully received.
Good luck with the move and potential job.
You will always here the horror stories on the forum. The good stories never seem to get that much attention. Much like media, everything going ok does not sell papers.
Plenty of dog friendly properties.

The rental market in Perth is tight, it's not uncommon to get dozens of applications per property. An agent's not going to ignore applicants who meet the requirements for pets, and recommend the applicant with pets in excess of the number permitted. Metropolitan Councils have a statutory 2 dog limit per property, exemptions need to be applied for in writing and need to include your Perth address and letters from neighbors stating that they have no objection to you keeping 3 dogs.
That's not a 'horror story', it's reality. I'd consider myself a pretty poor sort of person if I told the OP any differently and left her clueless as to what she would face here.

I've lived in Perth all my life. I work for local government and I have a keen interest in the Perth property market.
