My brain shifts here before the time change far more than it ever did in the UK. Here it just feels physically right to start getting up earlier and going to bed earlier.
In the UK I just saw it as a pain.

No daylight saving here in WA. Having only been here a month I'm not sure yet if that's a good or bad thing. Never saw the point of it in the UK but I know there's a difference of opinion about it here. Seems odd to think there's a time difference between states in the same country

Some mobiles will do it, depends on the provider. Also it will affect some of the timings on texts - if they go via a service centre on DST then the timing will be out for the next few months.

GIVE QUEENSLAND DST NOW !!!

(sorry, one of my fave rants about living here!)

My network (Vodafone) always seems to get it wrong, Jen - once changed the week before it should. Best bet is to set it to manual.

Nobody told the cats the clocks were changing so we got a lie in

Already light prior to 5 am even with sunrise about 5.30 ish, by summer its usually gettng light around 4.15 am

Neighbours kids are often screaming in the pool by 5.30 am. Bloody hate summer in OZ, its the biggest pain in the ass IMO no matter what bit of OZ it is.

I reckon thats the biggest bonus that Tasmania has to offer..... Aussie Summers in Tasmania are fairly good... later daylight hours than anywhere else as well.

I reckon I could be tempted to move there in my latter years, just to escape the hell that February is on those, Hot, sand blast, dead, brown, dusty, fly ridden fire furnace 40 degree plus days we get here occasionally in Melbourne.

Got to admit I'm well used to the warm nights now and quite enjoy sitting outside past 1am @ 25 degrees plus drinking beer.

My aussie mother in law always wanted to move to tasmania, hated the melbourne summer with a passion, she died without doing it though as the old man wouldnt move. Probably the only thing I had in common with her was our hate of the aussie summer

Now this is where i get a little confused(not hard)

The one thing my hubby said he missed is light nights in Summer sitting outside a country pub with friends at 9pm and still seeing the sun,

So does this mean some Australians have late night sunshine?
Something i am getting used to being without pretty quick
Why doens't all of Australia do it?

The sheer size of australia means you get totally different climates, time zones etc...

Plus some states have daylight saving some dont.

Eg SE qld in summer is dark by 7.15 in melb you might end up with 8.45.

Many other factors come into play too, Ive been in melb and it might be light later but the flies would stop anyone venturing out, disgusting. In qld it might be dark but no flies. Summer in OZ is harsh, not the most pleasant season at all.

Cheers for that, had guessed it had something to do with the different time zones, never thought about the flies and mozzies though them pesky lil buggers are making a meal out of me enough without anymore rain and sunshine to encourage them
