Darwin to Christchurch

Re: Darwin to Christchurch
Buzzy, after youve filled up with petrol, you could then make a cheap mobile phone call or attend a cheap latest release movie. Nationmaster : Australian Consumer Price Index 2014 = 109.34. NZ = 104.32. Prices are higher in Australia. As far as immigration goes, NZ employs a similar criteria to Australia for entry does it not? You either have to have skills that are in shortage here or be highly qualified or have lots of money or a qualifying family member.
Per Capita GDP (PPP) (IMF):
Australia $46550
NZ $35305
Average Per Capita Annual Household Disposable Income (OECD):
OECD Average $25908
Australia $31588
NZ $23815
Average Per Capita Household Net Financial Wealth (OECD):
Australia $47657
NZ $28290
Hope this helps

Re: Darwin to Christchurch
lol I'm merely generalizing the hard partiers who go to OZ for not much else and we both know it is an accurate one. The Idea that all migrants in OZ are highly prestigious individuals compared to NZ migrants is laughable. OZ will see more Migrants who are much more diverse in their reason's for moving there than NZ due to it being much larger and extremely backpacker friendly and in which it's cities has a lifestyle that suits many in terms of job prospects, entertainment and climate. OZ is no longer the dream for so many it once was as wages are not increasing with the increased cost of living, house prices are a joke in every city and unemployment is rising and migration there is slowing meanwhile migration in NZ increasing as well as a better performing economy at the minute. All these things change however but one of the reasons why migration is increasing in NZ is due to the increased wages
NZ would be a great country to retire in or live if an income was not essential but otherwise Australia is better
The kiwi guy I was talking about earlier says that despite the hard times here he is still better off than if he lived in NZ
Hope this helps

Re: Darwin to Christchurch
I filled up today at $1.75. If NZs goes up, so will Auses due to the market. However, I suggest we all go and live in Qatar anyway. They have the best GDP per capita, therefor that is the best country in the world in which to live. NZ is 31st on the list, just below France, UK, Japan and just above Italy and Spain. Not bad. The 31st best country in the world because they have the 31st best GDP per capita. Sounds kind of silly dont it? Although it does illustrate how exaggerated some of the previous comments on this thread are. Lol.

Not really in terms of where the OP should consider to move to after already emigrating once.
NZ is a very small isolated country with quite a high CoL and not so good wages & opportunities to compensate.
Yis. Yis I get that NZ has something to offer someone and some people and families. Why wouldn't it if you have a bit of money , a job , perhaps some family or friend connection and the like. Something to pull you and attract you . However the same is for Oz & the whole thing is what could be best for the OP.
They emigrated to Australia and so maybe a move within that country would be best explored first. Just as we would advise to someone in NZ or even in the UK thinking to emigrate.
Get the Oz citizenship first and then if Oz does not suit, think again.
It's about a cool head and common sense. it is not a competition.

In almost every metric that measures the wealth, health and well being of nations, Australia is ahead of New Zealand
Another advantage of not living in NZ is that your kids don't develop that wanker kiwi accent

Re: Darwin to Christchurch
The difference is that nowhere have I said NZ is better than Australia or any other country. I was just pointing out the exaggerations. NZ cost of living is not 2 to 5 times that of Oz. Thats ridiculous. People I have talked to have said the COL as a reason for returning to NZ. And on incomes NZ is not 2nd world. They are mid table OECD. I didnt even bother correcting the ascertion that the top CEOs earn about 160k when in fact the top 20 earn $2 mil plus. I could have gone on a lot more than I did. Lol. There is no doubt that, on average, Australian incomes are larger, although not always. Australia is a great country and a very good place to live. Certainly among the top 2 places in the world to live.

People often say that NZ is similar to the UK, or even the way the UK was many years ago. It is in some ways, but not all of them may be good.
The absolute worst thing that I find about NZ and the main reason I can never live there again, is the people's parochialism. Everything / everyone from another country is not as good as New Zealand, and is to be attacked. You see it in the NZ papers almost every day "NZ only came 15th in a global survey, but it doesn't matter, because Australia came 16th" - that sort of thing. I get more "pommie bastard" type jibes at me in NZ 2 weeks each year than I get the whole of the rest of the year in Melbourne, where I find people are much more worldy-wise.

Having visited Melbourne, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, what a refreshing change to be in a grown-up country. I was expecting some pommie bashing but have never had any in Australia. I frequently get loaded comments here.
NZ is a very beautiful country but it is expensive. There's far less choice in the shops than in Australia. Friends of ours have just immigrated to the Sunshine Coast after having been in NZ for the past 5 years. As the husband went first and needed to buy some white goods and furniture, they went looking for stuff in Harvey Norman, NZ to choose items together. On arrival in Oz he then went to HN there and bought the items at a significantly reduced cost to the NZ prices.
Yes, I get economies of scale etc., etc. but the fact is that NZ is a low-wage, high CoL.
I would echo other posters views, look elsewhere in Australia first.
If OH could get a job in Australia, we'd be over in a shot!

Send your hubby over for a scout around Vitalstatistics. Could be the start of a whole new and rewarding adventure for you both.

I'm trying to persuade OH that that's another option. We are also considering Dubai and Singapore.
Anyway enough of me......
