The train doesn't even go to Newcastle any more, it terminates at Hamilton and then you have to catch a bus. They are planning light rail, but even if it happens it won't be built for at least another 6 years. They have killed Newcastle commuting by train dead, crazy council.

Newcastle is a great place to live.
Beautiful beaches, Hunter valley vineyards, port Stephens whale and dolphin watching, 2 hours to Sydney.
Great climate generally.
The city itself is in the midst of regeneration. Parts have been very run down but things are changing. The cutting of the rail line is to open up the city to the water.
