me! Big believer in self-policing.
Before you earn the right to call someone out for being a **** you have to recognize the trait in yourself...
its while I don't trust these idle complainers...

Why this need for some analyse these things to the nth degree? Seriously what does it matter? Someone doesnt find Australia very dynamic, lots find Australians insular so what? Some prefer the UK and other prefer Australia, thats fine. I find Australians generally very insular but couldnt care less whether anyone else agrees. Maybe it is a Brisbane thing but again who cares as it is the only pkace I would consider living in Australia. I also found them the same in Victoria as well though so I guess that disproves that bizarre theory

bizarre theory
But you tell us how insular your Australia was to the nth degree?
So you would only live in one place, which is exactly the place which you and others complain about the most - and you are a fairly consistent complainer...can you see it is a fairly comical concept..!
I know my life is different to yours and I can reasonably hazard a guess your life was probably not that well stocked...
Your Melbourne experience counts with a selective demographic - which is again a demographic you complain about. So it matters to you.

Re: Compare standard of living in the UK with Australia
Of course ...... I was skiing 2 weeks ago and I was at the beach last weekend. Can you do that in the UK? Not a snowflakes ........... In fact I spend most of the winter in the pub or indoors. Not saying its a bad thing, just a different thing.
But I completely agree with your comment before. Australia can be as dynamic as you want it to be. So can the UK.
I feel sorry for those who come on here and complain about the different between the 2 countries rather than embracing what both have to offer ......... well newsflash ...... different countries different things.
So I have a question. Are most of the complainers on here living in Queensland? Most specifically Brisbane? Just a theory - might be an incorrect one.

Some people dislike Bris - some people dislike Melbourne.
Everyone is different and wants something different.
How strange is that

Hey I'm just throwing it out there but in my observations, expats seem not to settle in Brisbane more than any other place. Perhaps they've adopted the outspoken Queensland thing .... I do not know ..... just my observations.

You selected certain bits to highlight then missed the end bit "might be an incorrect one."

I find that the people who find Australia not very dynamic are not very dynamic by the standard I have set and observed in life - and that their definition of dynamic is not quite as dynamic as the life I've had the fortune to have...or they have picked the wrong cities or life choices...or have interests that are themselves not very dynamic.
It's a funny thing - when people say Australia is insular - yet some of the most insular people I have met have been British - you could argue there is less excuse too, for British people.
Show me somone who says things like 'Aussies can't do this or that' and I will show you a plebian Brit better placed in their old local observing their beer belly..
before scurring off to download the latest Corrie...

.....off to watch Corrie, even though it is 9 years behind..
There isn't a metaphor there. Honest.

Re Brisbane/Melbourne I don't think there are any facts to back up the view on here that people find it harder to relocate to Brisbane. If there is anecdotal evidence to suggest this then it's perhaps down to the people on here that move to Brisbane with little research and then complain that they are unhappy because they didn't expect it to be really hot and have lots of insects.
Sonlymewalter summed it up well. Everyone is different and wants different things. Having lived in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne I liked Brisbane the best, and by some distance.
However someone who dislikes humidity and wants a giant european-type city would have a different view.
As for dynamism, I find the aussies as dynamic as anywhere else. The UK, despite how much I like living here again, doesn't seem particularly dynamic to me.

And as you say, I think people tend to move to Australia without really being prepared.
It's only this whole negativity thing I am interested in, and I think you have to take into account a myriad of factors - and I do know that there seems to be a bit of a case history of particular factors (too many to list) that contribute to all sorts of strife, for some people. There are lessons to be learned out there.

You and a few others on here seem to think Brisbane plays second fiddle to Melbourne and those who are happy in Bris would love Melbourne more and that people who move to Bris are less likely to settle than those who move to Melbourne. Do you really believe this shite?
Some people like Brisbane and some like Melbourne and others like Sydney, Adelaide or Canberra or Cairns. Just because people prefer somewhere different doesn't make any place less or more in terms of value. Each state has something different to offer and has its plus and minus attributes - it all depends what each person wants and the fit with each individual.
Melbourne is no more or less than any other city and you may be surprised to know Melbourne isn't everyone's cup of tea either.
