Default Citizenship application in person

Having successfully taken the citizenship test and already having had our documents photocopied (at the time of the test) we now need to submit the citizenship application form and our little boys documents

My question is, can we turn up in person at the office of Citizenship and Immigration (on Adelaide Street in Brisbane) and submit our little boys paperwork, hand in our applications and pay the fees (do they take EFTPOS)?

Has anybody done this?

I was told after my test that I could hand the application in at the Immigration office in Melbourne. My mate was going to Melbourne the next day and he just handed it in at the enquiry counter. No problems.

I just filled in my credit card details in the fees section, and the $240 appeared on my statement about 3 weeks ago.

I've just been told by someone from the department helpline that applying in person is frowned upon so it's postal or online submission.

Can anyone tell me (a) where's the best place to get document certification done and (b) if penal certificates only apply for people who have been convicted abroad (not that I have) and are not akin to police checks?

Cheers.

Are you seriously saying you believe the helpline?

Isn't there a list of acceptable persons on the application form?

Only needed if you have spent 12 months or more overseas since getting your visa.

Yeah you can. They take EFTPOS. Personally I'd save yourself a crap load of waiting around and a trip and just send it Express Post next day. It will get processed in the same time anyhow.

So, ironically, no help at all then?

Isn't there a list of acceptable persons on the application form?

Yes, I've since realised that the same person who certified our photographs can also certify documents.

Only needed if you have spent 12 months or more overseas since getting your visa.

We had our visas granted August '05 then traveled to Sydney in November '05 (3 weeks) to validate them and finally moved to Australia permanently in July '06. Does this mean that we do not need penal clearance certificates as we have only spent 11 months in the UK from the date of visa issue to the date we entered Australia permanently?

I'm going to do the application online and then hand-deliver/post certified copies of our little boys documents as well as the accompanying identity validation documents required to accompany an online application.

This seems like the easiest way.

You should be fine. DIAC have been funny in the past with wanting PCCs done when you've lived in a country 11 months but I think it is more often than not with regards to the initial visa application. I'd send it all off but without the PCC and if they then say they want it then apply for it.
