Cheap beer in Oz, does it exist?
On our validation and recci trip last year i couldn't help but notice how expensive beer was in WA (perth).
Is that the case for the whole of Australia?
Also in Perth, where the best place to buy some?

Re: Cheap beer in Oz, does it exist?
From what I've read on here it doesn't exist anywhere in Oz.
I'm gonna change my ways and sip wine and lose my beer gut.
Let's see what the locals say.

There is no such thing as cheap beer.
Even the mid strength and Light beers are about the same as full strength.
Captive audience. No channel Tunnel to bring cheap stuff in

Wine by the box can be pretty good and cheap, like $15 for a 2 litres box.
Beer prices do vary a lot, there was a story on the news yesterday saying that costs vary by up to 40%, with the supermarket owned bottleo's the most expensive. You can't buy alcohol in the supermarkets, cheapest I've seen advertised is about $32 per carton around Sydney.
Of course I've only been here a few weeks, but seem to have picked this all up pretty quick
BTW "drinking out" can be very expensive, $14 for 2 beers on Darling Harbor, $3.5 "happy hour" beers in Sydney CBD. Then again, I've had a great steak special for $10 again on Darling Harbor.

In Perth you can expect to pay $10 a pint. I never go to pubs because it's too expensive.

I spend 43.00 on a case. Its not the cheapest by far but my intake reduced to fit my wallet. So in the end its the same really.

Look for your local wine merchant and scour the free paper advertising that will litter your post box.
We have been getting a free case of beer with the cases of wine we buy. This has been pretty regular for a about a year now. This is about the only way we try and buy beer Case of wine works out about $120-$150 and the latest offer has been for free crownies. I do not drink any lagers here preferring Guinness and I take a mortgage out for that or my platinum credit card We have been known to see a cheap offer and buy for occasions a few months in the future or stock pile.
This offer works for us but seriously check those bits of paper before you bin them all, it is like we try and buy basics sheets towels etc only when places have the sales on, which is regular enough you do not have to wait long.
