(Incidentally here in Singapore the same new car would cost around $70,000)
Make sure you're comparing like with like.

2007 Jazzes came in 6 different types and prices:
1.3 GLi - Manual, Auto
1.5 VTi - Manual, Auto
1.5 VTi Sport - Manual, Auto

Incidentally I will have a 2007 Jazz for sale in the next week or two - 1.5 VTi Auto, Midnight Black, 60,000 kms, working fine (end of lease - no longer needed to drive to work), no dents, a couple of minor scratches, 6 months' rego - looking around $14k, Sydney north shore if anyone's interested...

We had the same dilemma when we first arrived. We looked at various family sized cars around the 20k mark and you just did not get value for money IMO. 3 - 5 years old with 50-100000k on the clock and questionable scratches and dents.

So we went to Holden in Perth and they were unhelpful to be honest. They were not interested in fulfilling our needs rather they tried selling us the hard to shift stock. Left and went to Lynford across the road and the service, was simply outstanding. We looked at their second hand stock and they had a lot of nice cars, but the manager Henry, took control and cut us a deal on a brand new Falcon XR6. It had hail damage, however it was 4 small dents on the bonnet, which I could get fixed pretty cheap. We got our 2010 Falcon for 29k. It had tinted windows, upgraded alloys and a tow bar fitted as a bonus. And a 5 year 100000k warranty.

There is deals to be had. We got nearly 10k knocked off the recommended retail price, about 25%. Just speak to the dealers. So glad we bought new.
