I'm undecided on area. Have a few friends who live out in Joondalup, but think I'll try to get a short rental property near the CBD for a few months, before deciding on an area for the longer term.

When we first got here, I was on gumtree almost every day trying to furnish the house. We got some really nice solid timber furniture...dining room set, bookcases, TV stand, coffee table at about half of what they'd be new and in great condition. Ironically, about 1/3 of the stuff came from expats moving back...

I guess we all have a difference of opinion, life would be boring if we were all the same. I'm beginning to think we didn't come over with rose tinted glasses which is why we're settling & are happy so far.

Oddly every thing we've bought so far has been from expats although not because they're moving back. Hubby couldn't work out why one of the guys wasn't on his way back to the UK though as he didn't sound happy here. The couple I bought my dining chairs from where lovely & couldn't rate the place enough.

I am sure if a few posters on here saw my tatty little house they would be horrified, it needs shit loads of work and it is small, eventually when we can afford it we would like to move to somewhere quieter and bigger.
But we are on the property ladder, we have good friends and a better life than we had in the UK - everything works for us.
I have glasses - but they aint rose tints, they are ones for computer work!

If I had the money and choice I would not of rented here in bland Rockingham !.... had no choice but to take rental . but then realised what the area was(bogansville)...... I would liken it to the equivelant of a council estate the kids are feral not all but alot .............my son walking home yesterday got threatened by an abo ......No wonder one real estate in perth said to me recently why are you there it is shockingham ...third most bogan school is warnbro in wa !! ....I keep getting told it day in day out ...I get told so much by ozzies not you brits , the ozzies who know what the areas are truly like .
and when you go to the city everyone looks Normal !! yes just Normal ... I would rather have a smaller home that I own lucky you !!!! ....great to be able to choose where you live I rather have a house I can do up than the house I live in at the moment .
I think tho that location is everything, dont they say buy a shit house in a good area . Not a good house in a shit area .
I think Rockingham is a shit area ,alot of brits rent of buy here as it is alot more house for the $ . fair enough if you can't afford to live else where , however my definition of a bogan kindly told to me by an auzzie who was born and bred here , is the bogan has money but chooses to live in crap ....I do not have money hopefully be ok soon as of hubbies job ,
would you if you had money still shop in red dot , or the reject shop ....I doubt it , if people are truly hard up yeh go to these shops, or would you go to a shop with better quality things that last ? perhaps I guess thats likening it to being able to live in a big house in england good job good wages but shopping in iceland ..instead of marks and sparks ..when I am broke I buy in asda when I got a bit more money I shop in sainsburys the Bogan always shops cheap despite having money is that you ????? ...
.if you have a spare $100,000 to upgrade your car would you keep the car you have and do it up give it a bigger exhaust or upgrade to a quality car , well a bogan is someone who has money but buys less quality things ,or keeps the same old crap they have , if I had money I certainly would not be renting I would of bought !!! ...I think you would too .
thats not bogan .
That does not make me have Rose tinted glasses . If I were up nearer the city all would be perfect !! As for Coles and woolworths they are supermarkets that I shop in as they do a good choice of vege food . Nothing wrong with a bargain either . as long as what you buy is quality food for less .That does not mean I have to walk around with no shoes on in a supermarket or have messy hair , dirty clothes and grow a rats tail in the back of my hair also have a bad attitude . These true bogans for my description are Ozzy . If you on here are likening yourselfs and want to achieve being proud to be bogan then enjoy !!!!and if I have offended you then I am sorry as I am just giving my view of what I have experienced so far .

Everyone has their own opinion, obviously, but the world is not as black and white as it appears. And as for, "If you on here are likening yourselfs and want to achieve being proud to be bogan then enjoy !!!!" I can't speak for others, but my point is that because someone shops at IKEA or Target, or lives in a certain neighborhood, it doesn't necessarily make them a bogan. It's all too easy to slap labels on people...
I'd like to chat about this more, but I've got to get going on my application for my postgraduate coursework. Some of my friends say go for that PhD but I'm not sure. I think I'll go ask my fellow bogans what they think...

Do your friends live in rockingham !! Obviously they like quantity not quality if they shop in red dot . If they have that much money I guess they are tight penny pinchers I have a few relatives like that ! They are Jewish infact .
