Exclamation Can anyone recommend a storage/shipping company in the UK - Has Anyone stored at all?

my husband thinks that we should only go to brisbane with the basic stuff - clothes, the odd book and toy etc. He thinks that as we don't know where we'll be living and will be renting for a while, it makes sense to not ship everything over until we're settled. in theory it does make more sense but I'm a homebody and like all my personal stuff around me!!!!!

Has anyone done this??? - I'm assuming we just get the shipping company to come and pack everything up and it sits in a container for however long in the UK

Can anyone recommed shippers/storers???
We've had 2 bad experiences with packers and storers - Pickfords were the worst as everything was mouldy, damp, smashed, ripped and about 12 boxes nicked!!!!!!!!!!!! The mattresses were buggered and had to be binned and as they are specialist king size orthapedic ones they were'nt cheap to replace so Pickfords dragged their heels paying for 18 months!!!!!

Or how about getting everything packed, shipped to Brisbane and put in storage somewhere we can go and get stuff out if we want to? Is that possible???

Worried about the insurance point of view as well - if we get stuff packed and stored then shipped, and stuff is damaged, is it easy to claim for replacements?

I'm at the stage in the application where I'm worrying about everything and stressing out!!!!!! I need a boozy holiday to forget everything I think!!!!!!

Hi, we're hoping to go to Perth in March but need to store our stuff (whole house contents) from beginning of nov until we find a rental late march in Aus. All the shippers we've had in to quote have been able to offer storage in either UK or Aus (in Aus paperwork need to be complete when stuff is sent unless you are physically there to sort it out when it arrives). Seems much cheaper to store in Aus though. Basically after some price matching and haggling we have been offered some free storage in the Uk and then a good rate til we're reday to ship, with access to it if we need to add some more stuff before it goes. Both Crown Relocations and John Mason have offered the best deals so far.
There is a warehouse handling fee though as the stuff has to be reloaded to the container as it is not stored in it in the warehouse. We also need to insure it while in storage to show continuity.
Sorry we are only at the same stage as you so don't know how it will work out in reality, but both companies mentioned have been very helpful and willing to price match.

Thanks for that - it's a minefield out there with all the shippers and finding a trustworthy company that will actually look after our stuff without ripping us off in the process is all we're after really!!!!! After the trouble with Pickfords - the careful movers; taking the piss!!!!! - we tried a local company, again had to store stuff for a couple of months but again the storage place was damp as anything material is mouly, mattresses buggered and furniture damaged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hence looking for recommendations from people who've been there, had a great experience and happily recommend the company

I've met a guy from John mason at a local emigration show but the amount of makeup he was wearing was a little offputting at the time!!!! Trowelled on foundation and mascara!!! Nice guy tho lol!!!!

Default Re: Can anyone recommend a storage/shipping company in the UK - Has Anyone stored at all?

We have used Crown - they stored our stuff in UK free for 6weeks then shipped - our shared container arrived in Brisbane on 7th October and once it clears customs Crown will store all the stuff in their climate controlled storage facility in Brisbane until we arrive on 5th November (although by the time we get a rental house we won't need our container delivered until approx end of November).

UK storage was free then we just pay the Brisbane Crown storage rates - an initial warehouse handling fee of $300 then $240 per month.

Hope this helps,

Lynn

p.s will let you know about the condition of our stuff when we get it!!!! I'm just praying its not all mouldy - their storage is meant to be climate controlled though.
