Campervan trip from Adelaide to Brisbane/Sydney one way
Sorry haven't been on much since arriveing as no internet access at home.
We are looking at taking a campervan trip one way from Adelaide to Brisbane/Sydney.
Anyone done this?
Got any tips?
Where should we visit?
We are flexible with dates and how many days but would aim to end up in Brisbane/Sydney for the middle of August
We have had a quick look at the rental websites but lots to choose from.
We are thing 3 weeks or so, and it must be able to accomodate 2 x adults + 2 children, one of which needs to be a child restraint as not all campers offer this.
Anyone used one of the relocation services?
Some of our suggestions so far:-
Great Ocean road, Blue Mountains, Gold coast/surfers/Byron Bay.
Any tips for the practicalities of travelling in a campervan? Someone suggested to drive our station wagon and stay in motels instead to save money - anyone done this - did you find accomodation on route or did you have to pre book?
I have to go to the library for internet access but I will reply to any suggestions soon.
thanks
Johnnyyt

Re: Campervan trip from Adelaide to Brisbane/Sydney one way
Hi there
We drove from Adelaide to Brisbane one way in a campervan just over 2 years ago. We decided to take a scenic route and it took us 6 days but we didnt stay in any one place for more than one night and we were driving all day. We booked all the campsites we stayed at beforehand and dont know if we were just lucky but they were all spotlessly clean, although we were reaching them just as it was getting dark and we were off again in the morning. We headed for mildura, Hay, Bathurst then through nsw over the blue mountains then headed for the coast did newcastle, coffs harbour, byron bay and lots of little towns in northern nsw which i cant remember the names of but were absolutely stunning. Me and the OH loved the experience and all the stunning views - however the two kids in the back just didnt appreciate the experience at all - would never do it with kids in the back again. However, if you are spreading it over 3 weeks at least the kids will be able to get out and about.
For us (the adults) it was a very worthwhile experience.

My family motorhomed from Sydney -> Canberra -> Batemans Bay -> Sydney over 7 days in April. A fantastic trip - lots of freedom and not much difference in price to car hire + hotels. Probably cheaper when you factor in several meals that we self catered. If we had the chance to do it differently I think I would have planned to spend a night or two at informal camps since some stops were just overnighters. Planning to buy a motorhome as soon as possible after we move there in November ().

When we drove from Brisbane to Sydney in 2009, we stayed in holiday accom along the way. Daily we viewed the map, estimated the number of KM we would travel that day, called the Holiday agency for the city/area (I don't recall what they're called now) to ask for assistance with accom. We were a family of 6 - 2 adults and 4 children. We really enjoyed the scenery. would love to drive the GOR

Try Britz rentals as this time of the year they bring new vans online from Melbourne where they are made and want them delivering to Sydney and other cities

You can get those ^^^^ cheap/free relocation deals from the links that oz bound gave you. Also, check www.apollocamper.com/reloc.aspx
I just did it between Melbourne and Sydney. Upside: quite fun, cheap, interesting.
Downside: it's bloody cold at night if you don't have one of the big vans with a night heater or you're not plugged into mains to run a heater. Don't get one of the Mitsubishi Express-based vans - they're crap. The company's priority is (obviously) on moving the vans, not your enjoyment, so the "free" days are so numbered so that really you don't get any time to hang around, as you'd need to do quite a few hours of driving per day.

Had A quick look at some of the relocation deals butwhen you need to travel with two kids ( 1 only 11 months old) and you have an end date to stick to they don't really work out. It looks
like full price or nothing.good tip about the heating...
