Default Buying a car in Adelaide - any advise welcome please

Hello you brits already in Australia, our destination is Adelaide.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated on where to start a search for a car new or good second hand ??

What is involved in the tax you have to pay on purchase ?

What do you need to put it on the road?

4 x 4 versus family saloon ?

Is insurance expensive ??

Who are the Sharks ???

THANKS

In answer to your questions:

It all depends on how much you want to spend!!
We went for one that was two years old, second hand motors really hold their price here much more so that in the UK!

I would say 4 x 4, wins every time for me!! But we now own a caravan so it pulls that and we love going 4 x4ing!!

Insurance we have found you need to shop around but very reasonable!

Stamp Duty is payable on all cars, alot of garages advertising the price without stamp duty so beware!!!

They are ALL sharks, just depends how big a bite you want!! Main North Road and North East Road, are where you will find most dealers, be prepared to do a deal and if you dont get what you want walk away you will find it at the next place!!

Good Luck hope you find what you are looking for!
