Burnie/Devonport Suburbs
 

Hi, just looking for a bit more info on Burnie/Devonport Subs, hoping to move in next couple of months, like the look of Ulverston so far,

have been on homely and some forums, but either no info or mixed reviews,

Was just wondering of any subs around these 2 areas that you maybe wouldn't recommend :O

Just wanted if possible a bit more info on below subs, , we would like to be near a bar/pub/shop/cafe

Stony Rise - Devonport
Ambleside - Devonport

Parklands - Burnie
Park Grove - Burnie
Shorewell Park - Burnie
Brooklyn - Burnie

All small Australian Country towns of say less than 50,000 people basically only have the amenities you are after right in the centre of town.

I've not been to Burnie or Devonport yet..... However even Hobart I wouldn't live anywhere other than very very close in. Same goes with every Australian rural town I've seen in my 38 years here. I certainly wouldn't consider Launceston unless I was within 5 mins walk of the CBD. Burnie and Devenport are much much smaller than those places.

Definitely rent for a minimum of 6 months first is my best advice. Reason being your looking at the likelyhood of choosing a place quieter than you've experienced living in your life. Unless you've spent a chunk of time in the deepest Welsh Valleys.

hi ozzieeagle, thanks for the reply, yes i have spent my life in the welsh valleys/rural areas, , so even a shop in walking distance would be brilliant for me haha,

have looked at hobart and launceston too, but i dont mind being a little rural

I have never been to Devonport but I did work in Burnie for two weeks. There is a pub, a hotel/motel, a few cafes, a handful of shops but that's about all. It's not the kind of place I would like to live, but I am sure there are hundreds of residents there who love it.

What I did like about it was in a cafe I went into, when I ordered a burger they asked if I wanted salad on it as it has to be ordered as an add-on - Saves the trouble of taking it off if you are a lettuce dodger and saves a dollar :) Also a local took me to the 'best fish and chip shop' in the area, which was a petrol station and general store just out of town.

Sorry not much help to you, but brought back some memories for me.

Compared to the UK, Launceston would probably be considered a rural town.... Maybe not Hobart. It takes over an hour to drive from Devonport to Launceston.

Have a good look at Google Maps, street view :) Check out how many people are around.
