Re: "British" food/good shops in Australia
I asked the guy in there if he had any Marmite in the stock room as there was none on the shelf and got a sarcastic response "No we have run out of Marmite, get used to Vegemite" I dumped the rest of my intended purchase on the counter and walked out.
Why open a british/irish shop then get arsey because someone asks for something british/irish. Miserable git. I live 15 minutes from Miranda, so I will use Sugar FX for my occasional jar of marmite, jaffa cakes or PG Tips.

In my local Coles there is constantly Hellmanns, Marmite (although why anyone would prefer it to Vegemite is beyond me), Fountain Mint sauce is just as good as any UK version (according to the world's expert who happens to live with me).
We went in the local one to me (before it closed) but to be honest there was nothing that excited us at all. The girls got interested briefly at the sight of Minstrals but once we saw the price they lost interest and we went and got Cherry Ripe instead.
A market stall and an internet shop must surely be the only profitable course.

I would travel however I am very annoyed after ordering some food and mercandise from a shop Called Mostly British wihich has closed down and not given me the items I paid for. It really pissed me off but when I see the owner I will give him a good old english kicking. So be careful when you order stuff not available. May I recommend Pommes Tea shop at wynnum very descent folk.

I've eaten both in NZ but developed a strong preference for vegemite. It's got more 'bite' than marmite. Marmite also tastes too yeasty I think. I'd stick with the vegemite. I have also tried a thing called 'promite' but didn't like it much...tasted a bit strange to me. I didn't try marmite in the uk so don't know how it compares to the OZ and NZ versions.

Definetely Bisto. Bourbon & Custard Cream biscuits, Shreddies, "proper" Shredded Wheat not that lightweight Uncle Toby's stuff, Sainsburys Maple & Pecan Crunch cereal, stuffing in any flavour but sage & onion, non-syrupy mint sauce, Toffee Crisps, pork scratchings, Ambrosia custard or rice pudding, bread sauce mix, coronation chicken sandwich filler and a regular supply of Helmans Mayo..................................... no doubt there are others that will come to mind. Currently got a jar of the limited Guiness Marmite awaiting me in the UK on my next trip. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Sainsburys

humm nothing i really miss, but then i'm adaptable (have to be living with Alan )
my girls love Heinz Cream of Tom soup, they do sell it in Coles but only the 1 person tin (no good for 2 growing girls) plus extra expensive buying 2 tins for 1 lunch!
so i popped into my local Crazy Don's in Kelmscott who do a range of British Food and bought.....
wait for it
.........
the whole case of normal sized tins of cream of tom soup, that should keep the girls going till the end of winter

This new shop is opening virtually next door to The Spice Avenue English Balti which is the guy from the midlands,so hopefully that will keep it open for a long time, especially as a lot of people who visit the Balti house are british---2 birds with 1 stone
I wish them the best of luck and will be down for my Paxo : )
Darren (The guy who did the electrics for there shop)

I miss **** all to be honest - novelty cravings only. I get visiting friends/rellies to bring me a family pack of Wotsits and a large bar of Cadburys when they come - but I can't say I'd lose a lot of sleep over it if they didn't. I've also been known to nip into that shop in the Skygarden arcade in Sydney called Treats from Home when I'm up there, but the only thing I buy is a tube of Jaffa Cakes for my son Josh. They do sell those large 6.5Kg boxes of Aerial in there, but it's like $60 a box!!

When I left the UK in 1998 I just left some things behind. I do remember liking some things when they were there. eg Fruit Corners. but I don't hanker for them.
If I visited, I would probbably by default pick some up and reacquaint myself.
No sleep loss.
