Default Best place in Australia to live with children?

My family and I are planning to move to australia in a few years, i am planning massively ahead here! But want everything to be perfect and in order.
I would love to hear from any expats moms or dads, that have made the move from uk, what location are you in? Pros and cons for kids?, where do i start looking? when we move my girls will be 10 and 8.

We like the peace and quiet, no hussle and bussle, near a good beach would be perfect. I there a certain area where british expats go?

Can anyone help?

Thanks : )

You start looking where you can find work.

Over 1 million people from the UK live in Australia. They are scattered everywhere.

The only city that appears to have any type of UK enclave is the northern suburbs of Perth. Though why anyone wants to move to another country yet be surrounded by English people beats me. If you want to live in an English suburb, you should stay in England.

I live in Sydney's eastern suburbs just up the road from a fantastic beach. It was great for my kids but quiet it is not. Plenty of hustle and bustle around here so I doubt it would suit you.

it's a big country...bit of a vague request.
It is a little like asking 'where is best in Europe?'

Children happily live everywhere around Australia- it depends on what you do/what you want/what you expect from life.

Work i doubt will be a problem as my husband is a social worker and i have just qualified as a nurse, specialising in childrens mental health.

Nicky C: In reply to your comment about staying in uk, i would really think before you try and offer advice! people come on here for help, for advice, not the advice you give my love, what a shame.

Reason being why i asked where the expats go, was for my two young daughters, its a massive move for them too, and they will be leaving all their little friends behind, moving to a country where everyone speaks a little different, different accent, different likes, dislikes, i thought it would be nice for them to have the support of fellow english expats like ourselves!

So far this site has given me help, guidance, advice, and peace of mind when at my most vunerable, people like you Nicky C, should not be allowed to comment.... Remember you were once in my position!

You really know how to create a good impression don't you! The advice given was perfectly reasonable, given your somewhat vague request!

Anyway, to get back on track, does your planning a few years ahead include applying for visas to live and work in Australia? An obvious question I know.

I dont think my question was vague, i really just asked to hear stories from any expats that could give me some advice, regarding children, and location. No harm intended, i think i'm on the wrong sort of site here, obviously : (

I't would be nice to think we were all in the same boat.

Wow - you know how to win friends and influence people, don't you?

You put a question on a public forum, you don't get to pick who replies.

I actually thought my advice was quite good. If you really are that worried about your kids having to encounter different accents I doubt emigration is for you..

Its a [public website and by posting on here you must expect views from everyone.
British Expats live all over Australia, Nicky and the other posters are right. There is no specific area where you will find us - and there is no area which is "just" Brits.

It really is an unanswerable quesyion without knowing more about your family's needs. Do you want to live in a city? a small town? a rural area? near a beach? What sort of climate? Give us a bit more to go on and you'll get more help!

Best not to make assumptions about work. Getting a job as a nurse in Queensland, for example, is not easy any more as Queensland health have stopped recruiting and have made redundancies.....there are also thousands of graduates looking for work. Same apples to Social workers.
as a new Graduate it will not be easy.
Find a job first.....and then live where the work is.

NickyC: Im sure my children will settle in and the accent will become natural, not sure why your making it into an issue, cos its really not, my initial post was wanting to hear from expat parents, there stories, pros cons. etc That was my intention anyway!

Yes Pollyanna i understand, some posts nicer than others... obviously!

We would like to find somewhere, central enough for me to work, so the town/city would need a hospital (easy im sure)
But we love the outdoor, walking, exploring, beach. So near enough to a town for my work, but somewhere were we can drive 20 minutes home, and get away from the hussle and bussle.
Perth and Adelaide keep coming up, i might get some more info on them.
Do you have any good suggestions? for me to research

Grayling: Thank you for your advice, Yes he is a builder but training as a social worker, because we feel this would benefit us more, than an average joe builder, just trying to do everything we can really to insure visas.

Then make sure his training is adequate for him to register as a social worker here....Many are disappointed. Also, if you are a new graduate, you need to get enough experience to be eligible for a visa.

Things are really tightening up here especially in Mental health as the units tend to be small and you don't need MH qualifications to work in MH. As I have said there is a lot of pressure for new Australians graduates to be given work first and there are plenty looking.

All under control then?

Job = No 1.

Decide if humidity or dry heat is offputting.
Can you put up with a bit of a colder winter?
Or is sun important......

It's bloody expensive. Got any particular housing needs or wishes?
