Australian tax/NI number?
Hi guys,
I've had a look around and couldn't find it in a search but I'm a British/Australian dual national. I've never been to Australia other than on holiday (the passport helped cut the queues!).
I'm looking to emigrate to Australia this year, but do I need to apply for the Aussie equivalent of a British "national insurance" number before I head out there? I know anyone immigrating to the UK has to apply for a NI number before they can legally work.
Wanted to get that ticked off as I'd like to get some work lined up before flying out.
Any help/comments is appreciated

Re: Australian tax/NI number?
You can apply for a TFN (Tax File Number) with the ATO (Australian Tax Office) but that can be done when you arrive, I think.

Same applies in Australia. An Australian passport, or alternatively, an Australian citizenship certificate + photo ID, is absolutely acceptable as evidence of eligibility to work in Australia.

You should normally apply for a Tax File Number after you take up residence in Australia. Unless you particularly need to have one as a non-resident.
Australian State/Territory driving licence and Medicare card are essential, but only after you take up residence. Non-resident Australian citizens do not normally have these.
