Default Australian Apprenticeships, Easy To Get?

Australian Apprenticeships, how easy are they to get for us Brits? I am going on a WHV later this year and i was hoping to find an employeer willing to take me on as an Apprenticeship, but how likely is this going to happen? because here in the UK it is near impossible to get an apprenticeship.

Thanks

Very unlikely on a WHV as you can only work for 3 months for one employer.

Son got one as an electrician, 3 interviews, medicals, entrance exams, minimum education a high grade 12 pass, interview process took 5 months and there were a hundreds of candidates for a few jobs. Bit different from the hype but hes in 2nd year now so it was worth the hassle.

TurtleTom (son) got one - applied for 2 and got one. Wrote a letter of application and attended an interview - easy really. IMO there is not as much competition for places as the UK.

He has struggled to secure anything for when he goes back in April yet.

Depends on your age and what area really

If you're a youngster I would say you wont have any problems, especially if you're in one of the capital cities.

If you're mature (my DH is 35) then not so easy, especially if you live in a more country area (we are in Bunbury).

Good luck

Mr P managed to get an apprenticeship here in Vic.

You need to be a PR or citizen is the first hurdle.
He self registered and funded a pre-apprenticeship course , 13 weeks and about 800 dollars, then had to find a job to actually get an official apprenticeship.

As the drop out rate is high, employers seem to prefer the self funded pre- app training. Not easy, but at least age is no bar. H was 39 when he was accepted.
He is a 2nd year plumber- unfortunately the gvt are playing with the cirriculum and terms under which licences are granted, so he is caught up with not knowing quite when he will qualify.

So to get an apprenticehip on a WHV is not possible unless you have PR.
