The land was of course stolen from the Aboriginals if you use your example. Crown land in Australia is owned by the Government and they sell it off to developers who in turn make huge amounts of money. These people with the overwhelming majority of the money are the Australian aristocracy. The problem in Australia is that only a tiny % of the country is habitable, 99% of the population wouldnt want to live in 99% of the country, a slight exaggeration but you get the idea.
I must admit I have never come across anyone who thinks that the UK is still a feudal society

Property all over the world has ballooned in the past 15 years. UK property went nuts late 90s - 2007, same in Aus. Read on this website about prices in Canada exploding same period. I know people in US report the same only there they had a proper crash, CA at least. All over EU prices went nuts - look at Stockholm. Aus terribly unsustainably high, look at Shanghai property prices - to the moon.

Why?

Our economic system requires constant growth. For constant growth you need constant economic bubbles. Famous recent bubbles include Japanese asset prices in the 1980s, the dot-com bubble in the 1990s and the real estate bubble we are currently in, the worst ones being Australia, Britain, Ireland, Spain and China. When they burst, it's going to be very messy.

Another 30% to go according to recent reports just today. Not sure if Ireland's finished either. All these places have a long way to go. I've said it many times on here, houses in Aus valued at $500,000 should be more like $300,000.

I guess the bubble bursts when affordability is stretched to the limit and the big manipulators and players can no longer invent workable schemes to mug people into thinking that what they want to buy is affordable.
Britain is still very much a feudal society.

I generally wouldn't agree but then you look at the leasehold setup of property ownership that they have over there........

A feudal system if ever there was one

OK i found some useful reading which indicates that Australia is essentially Feudal just like the UK. Citizens of countries such as aus and the UK may think they own land but they are merely Crown tenants and can be hooved off if the state requires their land.
