Not in Perth , 95% are built on sand , cracking in brick houses is more to do with clay type soils . Baldivis is sand laid on sand .
Its actually the reason houses were cheaper to build in Perth - its land thats the ridiculous price.

Yes I've seen that sandy soil;-I couldn't believe it on my first visit; I couldn't understand how beach sand had drifted that far inland!!

The problem then applies to SA, and it is causing concern.

26 degrees ? Are you sure ? Our aircon is set at 18 degrees, or what's the point ?

18 degrees!! Surely they are running permanently to achieve that? You'd need a second mortgage to pay the bills!!

Agree! Although have turned ours up to 20 after horrendous electricity bill! We only have it on for sleeping though.

Holy cow. I'm thinking of lighting the fire at 20 degrees let alone having the aircon down that low. How on earth can you acclimatise to the real temperature if your house is that low? It must be unbearable any time you go outside.

We've got two air con units. I can't remember the last time the bedroom one was used but the living room was was in evaporative once or twice last summer. Prefer windows and doors open, screen doors closed and ceiling fans on medium myself.

Well I have three aircon units and have just been told that my electric is being reduced from $135 a fortnight to $110. Bargain !
