That's the online price for JB HiFi, which are well known for being less than the ticket price in store - i.e. already "reduced" from ticket price.

I've never paid the ticket price in JB-HiFi. But I understand others might.

On a side note: One of my early trips to the Good Guys I asked for the cash price. He gave a really good discount. I said "I'll take it" and then asked "I don't really have to pay cash do I?". "No", he said grinning.

For example, the kind of mouse I wanted to get recently was about half price in the UK compared to here. Computer games, and often other software, is often quite a lot cheaper in UK than here. Heading away from computer stuff, DVDs and Blu-Rays can often be as much as 50% less from the UK than here (including delivery to Australia).

My experience of things that I've needed within the computer & media category has been that 4 out of 5 times it's cheaper in the UK, and often considerably so.

What about pensions that CAN'T be moved abroad? My widow's pension, paid directly from my husband's employer, has been devalued by about 1/3 since we moved here - there isn't anyway that this could have been transferred overseas. Fortunately, Himself's salary has gone up more than enough to cover the difference (and more - there are some reasons why I keep him around ) so we're not reliant on it - but I'm sure there are plenty of ex-pats whose UK pensions are their only source of income.

Unfortunately, when people make the sort of uninformed comments as you've made above, they come across as a bit of a plonker.

See if you can find a external 2TB harddrive for 128 bucks in the UK ...

They have them at the good guys this week.... pay less for cash as well... even if you dont need cash

Wow I got one.... 96 bucks from that same site RM.... 63 quid.

This Aus dollar is making overseas items really cheap not here yet though.

That's interesting, not sure you've mentioned it before Someone will continue to argue though, it's Easter, they have nothing else to do.

I'll stick with it too. And I find many things which I can't do without a lot cheaper here too. If I need anything specialist I get it online.

To be honest, it's only very recently I've even personally noticed the 'cost of living' in BE proportions, the last power bill came with a hike. Apart from that, it's business as usual.

I have to admit I don't know how families survive ... my fiance and I have a fairly modest lifestyle and earn a decent combined income but cant understand how those with a few kids going through school etc with two cars can afford to live?

i think the biggest killer is accommodation followed by groceries.

Must be very hard indeed for many folk. Being debt free and no kids we have a pretty easy life but it wouldn't have been so if was purchasing now at about 400k more to pay.
Rip off indeed.

This expression "rip off" is starting to grate on me. No matter what time in the past, whether in UK or Australia, the average family has had to be very careful with their money to make ends meet and have the odd treat. They all thought that it would be nice if property and food were cheaper but the reality was they weren't so they got on with it. Today is no different - unless, as has always been the case, you happen to be amongst those who are considered rich.
