Dunno, it happens fairly regularly to my dad - he can sell coals to Newcastle I reckon.

Ok financial IT then. Who cares about the rest.

The comments are from Ozzie's so it's not just people on here who believe it is expensive here.

Tell me one country where the locals go round saying "I think it's really cheap to live here"? The phrase "rip-off Britain" was a constant in the papers at one time. It probably still is.

Like I have said before, overall, the UK is cheaper than Australia (not by much though) but is not a cheap country

Not much. I'm over in the UK right now and as far as I can see it's only bananas and beer that are cheaper, houses, gas, electricity and just about everything else are on the rise again. Good news though, seems like the economy is heading in the right direction and everyone is not quite so miserable any more.

Family of four have come home, I could barely disguise my glee when on the verge of being told how cheap the UK was - I have to disguise my sources after all. But this bloke thought the supermarkets were expensive!

He did, as I expected, say there were bargains to be had - like Easter eggs for a pound....it does seem that UK supermarkets discount little things...here and there - would steak be pound a pound?

But many of the old staples aren't always given away.

Sirloin steak in Asda is currently £15.97 per kilo
Leg of lamb (bone in) currenlty £9 per kilo
Lamb chops £15.00 per kilo

I am becoming a vegetarian

Hmmm....based on average salaries, perhaps more expensive in the UK. Or much more expensive - I'm struggling to remember the kilo price here.

Generally, Australian *groceries* are VERY expensive.

My weekly shopping bill has increased by approximately 1/3 in 12 months. And I haven't even bought any wine for about a month

A supermarket sweep would be a really good prize actually worth winning here - where you dash round filling it with everything you want!!

Just watch someone who's been living in Oz go into a UK supermarket - they're like a kid on Christmas day.

My sister's kids love coming to the supermarket when I'm visiting - they find it hilarious watching me shop! You're so right, it is like a kid at Christmas!!

Provide proof. I have sold a few cars in Australia and never made money on them, despite the retoric that 2nd hand cars hold value.
If you have made money, help BE people out by advising which advertising forums you have used and how long it took to sell the cars.

The supermarket sweep would have to be for a British supermarket though, ideally with first class airfares and an unlimited luggage allowance for the return trip.

I'm like a kid at Christmas as well, much to the bemusement of my relatives, my OH and kids. I was almost overcome with excitement and indecision when going into an M&S food shop to buy lunch on our 1st day there last year.

I also looked on Tesco website and chicken breasts are 9.26 GBP per kilo Did a few other searches and my general opinion is that fresh produce in some instances is as expensive in the UK. Where the UK is cheaper is processed stuff, convenience foods, bread and toiletries. If you have a trolley full of ready meals, biscuits, crisps then for sure you will be paying heaps more for less variety in Australia.
