Default Storage costs in Oz - what should we expect?

Hello,

My husband and I plan to rent a small self furnished flat while we find our way in our new home of Melbourne; I'd like to know how much, per month, we should expect to pay for storage of the contents of either a half or full 20ft container (we've not decided what to go for yet).

All helpful replies keenly welcomed!

Thank-you.

I would ask the shippers they can store things for you and are often cheaper.

Depending how long your things take to get there you may not need to store for long.

Add at least 2 weeks to the shippers estimates, they give fastest shipping time from dock to dock BUT it may not sail straight away, could be delayed by weather etc, and you need to add customs/AQUIS clearing times (up to 2 weeks). Also a part container can take longer as they will need to fill it with other peoples stuff before shipping.
From emptying your house in UK to delivery in Oz can be as short as 9 weeks but could easlily be 13-15 weeks or longer!

My full 20ft container has been in storage at Crown in Sydney for 5 years now - I pay $620 per quarter.

That's cheap! A storage space in Sydney storage companies equiv. to a 20' container volume is around $420 / month before any discounts are applied.

I have a quarter of a 20 foot container stored in Melbourne through OSS for $1100 per year. I pay a year in advance for a 10% discount :-)
