Hi,
Anyone moving to Joondalup with teenage kids?my lad is 16 and would be very happy to show them around and help them settle in ,as he know what its like to have to start all over again,we have been here a year now.I also have a 19 year old daughter, its a very differcult age to bring them out here but they are getting there.
So if anyone is in the boat as us we would like to hear from you.

What a good idea sue and bob!

we have been here almost a year now and are in the Port Kennedy area.
My son is almost 20 and 2 daughters ages 15 and 11.
Very difficult time moving here, esp for the kids I think. Son, has met some lovely young people though and has a bit of a social life..money allowing!
Girls have met others through school so easier for them. Although our middle child is very very homesick at the mo...hopefully it will pass.

I think that my children would be more than happy to help any newcomers too, so pm me if your children would like a contact before you leave blighty.

i would love to think that when our time comes and we get to aus, that there will be kind people like yourselves, with teenagers who are willing to be introduced to my kids. its such a great thing to do and if it helps them to settle easier its got to have a positive effect all round

Hi

Got a 17 and 13 year old coming to Leeming next month. Is Joondalup south of the river close to Leeming?

It is..one of the busiest in Australia. At least for light a/c traffic. Bankstown (where I flew out of) in Sydney also has a similar claim. Wish I had flown at Jandakot now - less stress when dealing with the tower etc. A mate of mine had problems hearing the Aussie controllers and almost caused an accident..

Yeah, that's very useful, I haven't found a good map on the net yet!
But... the link didn't work, but I found what you mean, but they're ones you have to pay for..?? Or are they the ones you mean?

Default Re: Any 16year old lads moving to Joondalup?

We dont have any lads but we have three girls, ages will be 15,17 and 18. We will be moving next July 2005 to the Joondaloop area, not sure where yet. We are Brits that have been living in Southern California for the past 6 years and are planning to live in Australia to be near my brother and other family. I know my girls would love to know what the schools are like. I have been getting some information about St. Stephens but cant seem to contact Ocean Reef Senior High School. I will probably have to phone them. Where does your son go to school? Any recommendations about anything school related for teenagers. I know its a difficult age to fit into school but we have done it once before when we moved from the UK although the girls were younger. My husband is in the IT industry and is hoping to get a job in Perth. I think the Australian school system is similar to the US system, they stay at school until year 12. My brother tells me that there are more Brits where he lives in Iluka than Australians!! In fact he hardly knows any Ozzies. My eldest daughter will be going to university in Australia so she is sorted out. My 17 year old to be is going to be the hardest to figure out as I think she will have to repeat part of year 11 again so she can take the tee exam.
Any thoughts appreciated!

Hi,
I dont know much about schools ,though my son went to ocean reef and he hated it ,So he is now working,i think its because there are to many pupils for the size of the school, and the staff there dont seem to care ,the receptionist there never answers the phone so i doubt you will get through ,there have been many complains about this from parents.
Your brother is right about Iluka,we live just over the raod from there.
Well good luck with your move and let me know how thing go.
