Another where to live- Perth area
We had been pinning our hopes on getting a 136 visa and going to live in NSW Central Coast. For reasons of not wanting to be too far from a big city, near or on the coast, but wanting a smaller community, hopefully cheaper property (although we'll be renting for at least a few years), and decent schools.
BUT due to being caught up in this: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=496610 We have now gone onto state sponsorship to WA, and just been accepted. We have only spent 1 week in Perth area in the past, and from the brief amount we saw, we liked the area between Fremantle and Mandurah. Would that area fit the above scenario that was going to take us to NSW Central Coast? If so, where are the better and worst parts of that area? Cheers Gaz |

In a word.... "yes"
But dont NSW central coast! How about Bunbury area if big city not essential? 2 hrs from Perth (90 mins next year wheh new road opens) and $$$$$$$ cheaper than Perth housing wise. |

Unfortunately, I think we would want to be an hour, not much more, away from Perth. Do you really need to go 1 1/2 to 2 hours out to get decent housing prices (without going inland)? Gaz |

Define "decent".
Have a look at www.realestate.com.au. They have rentals and sales by suburb you can look at |

Cheers Gaz BTW, Early reports/research seems to be favouring Rockingham general area- good/bad idea? |

I'll get shot down for this but personally I much prefer south f the river. Each to their own |
Re: Another where to live- Perth area
Hi Gaz. We are heading SOR to Secret Harbour, which lies between Rockingham and Mandurah. For us, it was a case of being near OH's work (Industrial area called Kwinana) and close to the beach. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong on here, but most suburbs (other than the mega expensive ones) NOR are a good car journey to the beach. While my kids are young, I want to be able to cycle to the beach after school etc. I'm sure this will change when they're older but for now, it suits. Have a look at this site which specialises in Perth.
http://www.pomsinperth.com/discussionboard (However, be warned most of them prefer NOR and refer to anyone living south as rednecks etc etc. It all depends what you want in life) or this one http://www.emi-great.com/phpBB3/index.php which is about the Rockingham/Mandurah area. Good luck. Amanda |

I just found out I have a good mate who lives in Port Kennedy and is a real estate agent, which will come in very handy!;) Gaz |
