AEC enrolment?
I recently received a letter from the AEC about getting enrolled automatically (unless I reply to them).
Since I am definitely leaving the country in a few months (date fixed, lease ends then, one-way ticket booked and paid for, etc.) and not planning on returning within 6 years at the very least, do I still need to get enrolled and then inform them once I leave? Or should/can I somehow prevent them from signing me up at this point in time?

Re: AEC enrolment?
Thanks Pollyana, will do just that - let them enrol me automatically and then send them the correct form once I depart.

FWIW. I was receiving fines at my former address for 6 or 7 years for not voting when living abroad. I finally wrote a letter to let them know I hadn't been living at that address nor in the country for that period of time. The fines stoped coming and I've never heard from them since.
Why you leaving? I thought the Goldie was the bomb?

Probably have to put that on the massive list of things to do when leaving the country.

I have little faith that the AEC has any idea what they are doing. They are continually trying to fine my Kiwi/Canadian mate for having not voted. He's not a citizen, nor even a PR, yet the letters keep coming despite him sending all of his passport and citizenship details.

Re: AEC enrolment?
It was never my intention of staying long-term. I just wanted to give the kids a bit of time here to get to know Australia, to actually live here as citizens for a short while before moving on to Europe.
As for Goldie, it's the only thing that postponed my decision to move to Europe earlier. If not for this truly unique place, that gives so much without the burden of big city problems, I would have headed there straight from Singapore.
