Re: Advice regarding schools
here in Brisbane my son did have the choice to go either the year above or stay back, he went the year above, after a couple of years of mucking around and making friends he is now doing very well,
also be prepared to pay for resources which for my son is about $500 per year

How can I find out what schools are good in the Brisbane area...it looks likely that’s where we’ll end up.

If your daughter finished primary here in the UK then she would start year 7 (primary) in Aus in either Jan/Feb 2019 this link to education in Perth,WA is good: Schooling in Perth and the Australian Education System
Our two sons were both very bright when they arrived in WA (from their parents of course lol) seriously though they attended a fab Primary school in the UK and upon arrival (Dec) we enrolled them at a local primary school both boys could of been put up a year (our eldest was classified as being nearly 2 years ahead of his year group) but we decided on keeping our sons in their "age" groups for maturity reasons (WA schools have children "p and down" in their education system),but to help them "keep up" their education levels we did "homework" as they would have done in the UK ie reading, writing and maths a couple of evenings a week which was advised to us by class teachers (both whom had worked in the UK education system) in the end though it all "levels" out. Good luck on your move

We’re not moving to Perth though - it’ll probably be Brisbane, so maybe it’s different there? I wondered if someone could give me advice on schools in that area.

Re: Advice regarding schools
Hi, Sorry I meant to post that on another thread... our boys enjoyed their time in Aus but they enjoy being back in the UK and Europe more, they both think the education system is better here in the UK and say that they would more than as likely would not of attended Uni in Aus if we had stayed there and just entered a "trade" like most of their friends had done....Good luck with Brisbane and hope all goes well for you all.
